I'm not gonna write some crap filled melodrama about Al's passing, but I will say, for us old farts who've been watching football for 20-30 years, this is a big loss. Al was different from day one. He never took any crap and did things his way. For you younger guys it's a shame all you've seen is people make fun of him, compare him to the crypt keeper, laugh at his drafting style, mock the Raider win/loss record the last decade etc...The man was a genius. He lived and breathed football. All the losing really did hurt him. He can't stand losing and never settled for anything less them a Superbowl.
It was said even earlier this week he was studying game film of Houston, analyzing the rosters, talking to Hue on a daily basis...I guess if he was gonna go, this is exactly how he would have wanted to. He was a man born to do what he did. He was sharp even up to the end. He will be missed.

Interesting how things start out meaning so much to us, then Al must've gotten to a point where "a game was a game" to him... then towards the end you start thinking "this could be my last" and I bet these recent games were priceless to him again.
That said, this is good news if your a Raider fan. He was too hands on for sure and it appeared he didn't know what the hell he was doing the last decade. Maybe now the Raiders can get back to winning football games.

The uncertainty that it brings is not a good thing, IMO. Also, our drafts the past couple of years were excellent. It seems that Al started doing things the right way, or else had people helping him out. He will surely be missed by Raiders fans. Al was the Raiders. It's weird and it still hasn't hit home yet that he is gone.
