  • Something From Nothing... Again.

Our Beloved Phantoms made two rather small but significant roster moves on Tuesday signing 2nd year possession WR Bernie Hanks and rookie pass rushing prospect Omar Dabbs.

Hanks has been on 3 teams so far in 2020 so there are question marks but he appears to have all the physical tools necessary to be a very quality #3, maybe even #2, WR in this league. Team Owner/GM Jester Blaze is pumped!

"These guys aren't usually available for free like this. I'm very excited about today's moves!

Bernie can do everything but do deep... and that's fine. We don't need 5 guys running downfield every play. We've got guys that can spread the field already on the roster. I can see Bernie piling up 4K, maybe 5K yards for us before it's all done.

No way he should be on this roster for less than $1M with all the teams in this league. Thanks for sleeping, guys!"

Hanks steps into a chaotic WR situation where he could quickly become a starter. Of the 8 legit WRs on the team (Bart Shepard is simply a mentor) 5 are in year 2 or less and Hanks seems the most polished.

On the defensive side of the ball Omar Dabbs provides a raw pass-rushing seedling for DC Rob Shelton to groom into a potential IFL threat. Picking up Dabbs for $390 off the FA market is the blue print of low risk/higher reward moves that if done often enough will pan out. Omar has prototypical pass-rusher size and has all the requirements (tech, str, diag, endur) if not the bells and whistles (pun hitter). Look for him to "arrive" in 2022 as a passing-down DE. Until then he only has All-Pro Willie Bo and past All-Pro Vern Copeland to learn from.

Jester tells me there are other talents on the FA market right now.

"Teams need to go down there roster position by position, especially the rebuilding teams, and sort through the league by their system needs searching for better talent. I guarantee you the league would see 50 guys signed this week!"

I thought you were definitely coming with a couple $M this time around but through a bid in anyway.

I saw him, but with only 1.5 under the cap I knew there would be heavy bidding on him and didn't even bother.

Was wondering who'd pick him up. Tough cut but he lost out to the young prospects on my team when I needed an injury sub.

                Sole: 27
                Dash: 4.64
                Str: 6
                Agl: 7.09
                Bjmp: 109
                Drill:44

Bennie LaMontagne (UDFA picked up to play slot) was very underrated by my scout and added points after TC (+4) -- with his speed/hands/str being slightly better I opted to go with my guy instead of Hanks.

                Sole:22
                Dash:4.51
                Str: 11
                Agl: 7.1
                Bjmp: 102
                Drill: 53

Hanks 3rd down catching is worth the price of admission easy -- good pickup Jester

Jester ... as you alalready know, , it is these kind of tiny adjustment moves that can produce big dividends.

I also looked long and hard at the receiver but didn't have a roster spot that I wanted to give up at this point in the season. Believe me, I looked and looked to find a space on the two different mid-week exports that he was available.

Good luck with him. By the way, my scouting had his ratings go up a couple points after you picked him up. Damn.

Unexpected immediate impact from the rookie DE: Dabbs got a sack, hurry, and fumble recovery while appearing in only 8 plays in his first game.
