  • 2020: SLC Week 3 - The Good, the bad, and the ugly

    The Good:
    • 0 Drops by WRs/TEs and the young guys look to be the well-cast in their roles.
    • better than expected play by a young defense that's been hamstrung by offensive turnovers. We can rush the passer at least:
    11.6 Spct
    8 sacks
    6 hurries
    2 Fumbles Forced

    The Bad:
    • Can't protect the passer - 16 hurries/4 sacks allowed
    • Special teams not playing well so far; from return coverage to kick holder, we've got issues

    The Ugly:
    • 3 points - assumed it would be ugly early but 3 points???
    • Turnovers - Our inability to protect the passer has resulted in the young QB Downing taking hits and turning over the ball.
    • Balance - 76 passing plays vs. only 41 running plays is not a formula for success with my personnel and Artie Lyle coaching, we have to run the ball---it's what we're built to do.

    Regrets:

Trading RB Lawrence Strunk / RB Bradford

my running game is 'off' out of the gates and either one of them would be nice to have right now. Sure, it's only been 41 attempts but I know those guys would have done more with the carries...

    No regrets:
    • Trading WR Dan Capuco,
acquired some talent at the position via the draft/ so letting him go looks like a good move so far
    • Acquiring the underrated OLB Kirk Mahoney (36/36)
Through 2 weeks he's showing he can play with
    13 tkls, 2.5 sacks, 2 hurries, & 4 QBKd
    • QB Don Downing
A 65% completion rate against OAK's defense in his first start with a leaky offensive line and young WRs was promising; the stat line following the Hartford game, alarming but acceptable given how poorly my line is playing. +1 curr through Wk2

Was hoping to be 1-1 here; 0-2 means that I will likely fully embrace the 'rebuild' and trade WR DOn Gomez / DE Quentin Caro -- I'd like to keep them but I hate seeing good players not get a shot at a championship. We may get it turned around but this is not a playoff team.

    Nice report Vito.

Looking forward to our match up Tuesday. We were overmatched vs TUL/POR. Looking forward to playing another team experiencing growing pains.

Rushing the passer is the one thing we've done really well. Our front 7 is formidable when Coronado is in the game. Our secondary is better than last year but still has a long way to go. We're being torched by YAC. Your guys scare me in that sense.

QB play has been awful here. We haven't put together an 8 play drive yet. HUGE turnover and penalties issues.

Yeah DDT, at least one of us gets a win next week. I'm hoping for Downing coming out party next week but don't see happening without our tackles playing better.
