Bolt Diary Issue 1 *week 7 *
What does it take to get a win?
Sometimes, you say and do all the right thinsg and it still doesn't turn out right.
Some great things came out of this game.
The first being, not only did they hold a ten point lead, after scoring the first ten points, they bounced back from a devastating 30 yard touchdown score with a minute and 12 seconds left to drive 56 yards in six plays to attempt the game winning field goal, only to see it sail wide right and send home 79,400 fans who were on the edge of their seat due to the late game dramatics and never say die attitude of the Bolt coaches and players.
But in the end, it was a loss. And you can say a loss is a loss, and late game heroics aside, this one hurts. It hurts you in the gut, it would almost be better to get blown out.
They say you learn from games like this, learn how to put a team away, when you gain an advantage and the young Bolts are learning. They may be 1-5, but with each practice, with each snap, with each game, and every situation, they are getting better and better, and soon it will all click.
After the game, we talked to a few Bulington players to see how they felt about the moral victory.
QB Virgil Sepulveda: "Don't talk to me about no stinking moral victory, we had those clowns. You know when I play badly, I will be the first one to point the blame right at myself. But today, we had scored a field goal and went up 10-0, and we kicked off and next thing you know it, some punk ass wide reciever was taking that ball to the house. What the hell is wrong with the special teams? They weren't very special today. First a blown kick coverage and then we miss the game winning field goal. I'm pissed. I am the future of this league. I ran a 4.33 40 during minicamp and that was with the flu. Bring all your team's wide recievers, running backs, and defensive backs, I will smoke all them fools.
And where the hell was my blocking today? I was sacked 5 times. I got a headache (stretches arms out as wide as he can and continues to speak) this big and it's got excedrin written all over it. I mean man, what was it our third drive and I was sacked three straight times? WHAT THE F***? Do I have to do everything myself?
For now, on the buck stops here with #1. I am taking things into my own hands and feet. Speaking of #1, this interview is over, I am headed to the owners office right now, they are going to change my damn number. "
K Huff: What do you want me to say? I was the one who blew the game. Not only did I miss the game winning field goal, but I didn't get all my leg into that kickoff that led to them returning it for a td. I stunk today, plain and simple.
Reporter: But you hit 4 field goals?
K Huff? You didn't hear me? I stunk and I was the reason we lost this game. All I can say is I will try to redeem myself next week. Can I go now?"
Head Coach Rico Sprouse: Hey, I give our guys alot of credit. I know they are down right now, but we are doing some positive things out there. Sooner or later, we will get the monkey off of our backs and get another win, until then we just gotta keep our heads up and stick together. This team is going to be scary good one day. We got two very good recievers and excellent offensive line, our defensive backs are very talented and getting better and better every time they go out there and our qb is going to be a star in this league one day, you mark my words. Now we got a plane to catch, thanks for having me.
Well there certainly is alot of drama in the Bolts organization, but there is no doubt in my mind, that this team is going to be getting it's next win, sooner than later.
Until next time.
