Phantoms 2020 Draft
1.20 Corwin Hawthorne, SE: The loss of Marty Silvan hurt us hard at one of the prime positions in this league. We had to react immediately and thus selected Corwin with our first pick. Our scout, Leland Howe, thinks Corwin's best days are ahead of him and that he'll be a much better pro than collegiate athlete. The plan is for him to help us immediately so he better have a great camp! He'll also hopefully help us on kick returns and on the kickoff team. Corwin was actually #2 on our draft list but need forced our hand. #1 on our list was still there for our next selection...
Height: 5'11" Weight: 181 lb.
Pre-Camp Rating: 21/38
Post-Camp Rating: 25/43 (+4/+5)
1.27 Peter Merchant, RG: Rarely do we get into trying to mock-draft and project who will take what position but this was an exception. Oakland had two picks in front of us and didn't seem likely to take a Guard. Turns out Vancouver was going to take Hawthorne 2 slots after us and Merchant lasted until 1.27 so this couldn't have worked out better for us. Peter is a 6'6" 331 lb Man-Child who plays to win and should help open up holes for Louie Humphries. We expect him to be the Phantoms' starting RG for the majority of the 2020's.
Height: 6'6" Weight: 331 lb.
Pre-Camp Rating: 21/58
Post-Camp Rating: 28/59 (+7/+1)
2.19 Bob Midget, LDT: Bob was the 11th ranked player in the draft based on a panel of IFL currently employed scouts. We figured that one of the many highly-graded DTs would have to fall and Midget was the last of the top tier of DTs in this draft. We couldn't pass up the value at 2.19. He fills a need for us as a back-up to start but could be a starter down the road.
Height: 6'3" Weight: 317 lb.
Pre-Camp Rating: 37/54
Post-Camp Rating: 42/52 (+5/-2)
2.27 Kelly Whitfield, FL: Though Hawthorne was our #1 target, we felt that Whitfield would be off the board before him. To see Kelly available more than a round later was very surprising and we had to take a shot at another receiving threat for Roderick Amos. Whitfield is well balanced but one skill shines above all and that's his ability to adjust to the ball which makes up for his 5'9" frame. Our scouts think he's underrated and will be an excellent slot receiver.
Height: 5'9" Weight: 189 lb.
Pre-Camp Rating: 23/47
Post-Camp Rating: 27/47 (+4/0)
3.12 Warren Donald Donaldson: We were all set to pull the trigger and select Illinois kicker Joey Stargell when the dastardly Houston Renegades swooped in trade-wise and selected him 1 slot in front of us. We turned to Virginia kicker/character Warren Donald Donaldson who claims to be not only the best kicker in the draft but as he puts it "...in all the land." He had this to say about the Renegades trading in front: "Fuck the Houston Renegades!" (sips from an obvious liquor bottle with the label torn off) "Fuck 'em!"
Height: 5'10" Weight: 182 lb.

Pre-Camp Rating: 30/67
Post-Camp Rating: 30/57 (0/-10)
4.19 Jason Eatherton, FL: Having already selected 2 WRs in this draft we really wanted to go in another direction but Eatherton was still on the board in the mid-4th round and has potentially great return ability at both PR and KR spots. A possession receiver at best it'll be a bonus if he can play WR. We might have 7-8 WRs on the roster this season!
Height: 6'0" Weight: 196 lb.
Pre-Camp Rating: 24/44
Post-Camp Rating: 27/40 (+3/-4)
4.27 Bob Walls, LCB: Bob has decent size and a decent combine. CB was a big need for us and thus we took a gamble on the local New Hampshire product. Even if he doesn't work out, he works out just being a body on the roster at the position.
Height: 6'0" Weight: 195 lb.
Pre-Camp Rating: 14/55
Post-Camp Rating: 18/49 (+4/-6)
5.22 Daryl Rivers, C: We really expected someone to scoop Daryl up before we'd be willing to use a pick on a Center. That didn't happen and we felt Daryl was too good of a talent to pass up in the late 5th round. Myron Green has probably seen his last days as a Phantom with the addition of Rivers.
Height: 6'0" Weight: 272 lb.
Pre-Camp Rating: 24/50
Post-Camp Rating: 28/50 (+4/0)
7.20 Wes Van Hoose, T Simple need based pick to fill a roster spot.
Height: 6'4" Weight: 309 lb.
Pre-Camp Rating: 8/41
Post-Camp Rating: 12/40 (+4/-1)
7.21 Arnold Dragon, QB: You gotta try to nab a QB every year and Arnold is this years attempt. Good combine for a 7th round pick. The poor man's Antonio Tyler.
Height: 6'1" Weight: 208 lb.
Pre-Camp Rating: 9/31
Post-Camp Rating: 13/33 (+4/+2)
7.27 Larry Huffman, SS: His size is right, which is rare in this draft class. It was late in the draft and maybe we should have gone elsewhere. We'll see.
Height: 6'1" Weight: 219 lb.
Pre-Camp Rating: 10/32
Post-Camp Rating: 11/28 (+1/-4)
