    QB Alfred Sullivan
    by Seymour Butts

As the regular season approches with one game left in the pre-season before the Voodoo begin their 2018 campaign, they currently have 5 QB's on the roster. Why, Is the starting job up for grabs? I sat down with Caro's former apprentice to see whats up.

SB: What's good with ya Sully?

AS: Not much just got done going through the passing tree with my wide receivers after practice, just trying to get the timing down with most of the new guys.

SB: Alright man first things first, why so many QB's on the roster, are you in a battle for your job right now?

AS: No not all, I'm still the man around here and I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. I been battling that injury bug since last season, and the coaches are just trying to prepare for that situation, by making sure we have quality backups.

SB: Oh ok, so we should expect some cuts from this position after this upcoming game.

AS: Yea, and it's unfortunate cause i like all of these guys but football a business and I've been around long enough to understand that.

SB: Your headed in to your 9th year as a pro in this league, but you didn't see the field as a starter until you arrived here in your 6th year from portland. A lot of people expected you to have similar production as your mentor. Why do you feel it just hasn't gone that way so far?

AS: I'm not gonna make excuses, I haven't done horrible but I could be doing a whole lot better. I feel like I have the skills to get it done regardless of who I'm throwing the ball to. This offseason i've just been working my footwork in the pockect, trying get back to the spot quciker so i can get the ball out of my hands a lot sooner than years past.

SB: You mention getting the ball out of your hands quicker. It would sure save you from a beating my friend, in the past three years you've been in the top 10 for most sacked each year. How much of that do you put on yourself and not the O-Line?

AS: I'd say it's mostly me man, those guys hold the rush off as long as they can, and sometimes I just hold on to the ball a little to long to try to make something happen when nothings there. You can't do that in this league, you have to take what the defense gives you.

SB: Well I'm happy to see your making every effort to get better. What can you tell us about Joel Lane, how's he looked in practice?

AS: He's just trying to soak up as much knowledge as he can when in film study and he can sling that rock, he's just very raw at this stage, but I'm going to have fun watching him grow. The rookies we got at receiver are the same way, i can't wait to see what they do when they get a chance to finally show us when it matters.

SB: And we can't wait to see you against the Mules when the season kicks-off, Thanks for your time Sully.

AS: No problem man been a pleasure.

    nice read

always like Sullivan. As I recall I tried my best to sign him in hopes that he'd take over for the King. You had a lot more money available to do so and you were able to nab a pretty darn good QB in your first season with us. Once he gets some weapons to throw to he'll be good. Looking forward to seeing him have some success...and hopefully this year

I hope so to, I haven't been able to draft a stud go to guy for him and i haven't been able to draft someone to watch his backside, i think he will make progress, but i think we have 1 more year before the offense is complete.

            RB Vincent Tribble
            By Seymour Butts

The all purpose back recently found his name among the top ten best RB's list recently, despite having his worst year running the football to date. I caught up with him to get his thoughts on this upcoming season.

            SB: V.T whats up man?

VT: Just getting better everyday man.

SB: Were you suprised to see your name on that list?

VT: No, not at all. My numbers have been going down in rushing yards cause i've been sharing the rock for the past couple years with two other backs. However, I am a threat out of the backfield in the passing game, and I still got my wheels.

SB: Why the RB rotation? I mean you haven't missed a game in your whole career due to injury - ever!

VT: I don't mind in fact I think the rotation works great, it helps me stay healthy and if we can be in the thick of the playoff race, I think you'll see it pays to have it in place. Especially when you see a lot of 8-man in the box.

SB: So you don't feel slighted at all?

VT: No, because when we need a big play, the coaches know who can give it to them at the end of the day. I plan to provide those plays more often this year, regardless of how many touches.

SB: Last year you guys had one of the smaller backfields in the league, and didn't even have a true FB on the roster. How do you see RB Kerry Young and vetran FB Gilbert Poole contributing to the team this year.

VT: Gilbert is a guy who never really had the chance to start, but you wouldn't know it by the way he works his tail off. You can see the intensity in his eyes when he straps that helmet on, it's scary. He's not going to wow anybody but he gets the job done, and he can get you those tough yards on third and short. Kerry on the other hand is a bigger version of RB Victor Cobb. He runs with a certain swagger in between the tackles and he is very intelligent, and he's always asking questions. They've inspired me to work harder than years past.

SB: You mention Gilbert being an a tough guy to bring down on third down. Should we expect you to make more plays in the passing game this season in those situations? I've heard some interesting things about formations with you out wide!?!?

VT: Yeah man, I used to play some receiver back at high school, and I am heading in to this season as the team leading receiver, so coach figured why not. It's a fun to lineup somewhere else where I have some space to run every once in a while. Plus it will give defenses some different looks and hopefully get some men out of the box during games.

SB: Well I can't to see it in action when it counts. See you in Murfreesburo.

            VT: Alright man take care.

                        SILB Irv Cardona
                        by Seymour Butts

Couple of weeks ago this man was unhappy and was criticized for holding out. Wolf granted his wishes but it was after he had a long phone conversation telling him exactly what he means to this football team. He responded by having a lights out pre-seaon. Now with cut day approaching, we sat down with the man that holds that front seven together.

SB:I see you have couple new tattoos man whats up?

IC: I know I said I would stop when I hit 20 of em' last traning camp - but I can't stop holmes. I had to get two for my cousins though - that street life caught up to them.

SB: So are you a part of the La Puente Trece Gang?

IC: No, not since I chose football over the gang back in my senior year of highschool. Only reason I can still be around there is my family ties to some higher ups.

SB: Ok now before we start, what do you want to say to the Voodoo fans out there as far as why you heldout?

IC: I've seen a lot of players careers be cut short in this league, lets face it - even though this seems to be a quarterback friendly league, football is still a violent game at its core. I just wanted to make sure if it happened to me that my family would still be ok.

SB: So it wasn't cause of any selfish reason, or the fact you felt underpaid?

IC: Nah man, just was looking out for my well being was all.

SB: Did you think Wolf would get the deal done so quick?

IC: No, actually i didn't expect it. It's nice to know that he really cares about his players though.

SB: When he was on the phone with you the night before the deal got done, what did he say?

IC: He let me that he enjoys the fact that I play the game it's supposed to be played and that in order for this defensive unit to live up to the hype surrounding it with all of the big names we've developed - we need you. When he said that to me I swear I could've played for free holmes haha.

SB: You know when I watch you play the run, you always shoot in like a missle torwards the ball carrier - yet you never go for the big hit. Is there method to your madness?

IC: I feel it's more important to just make the sure tackle, so I feel if i can get someone to brace for the impact or at least hesitate for a moment, I've won that matchup cause he not getting away from me.

SB: I can believe that statement, you've led the team in tackles twice in the past three seasons. What do you think will be the biggest difference about the defensive unit this coming season as oppose to years past?

IC: Coach May has been implementing an aggresive but smart style of ball to us - when we blitz it could be from any where, we just make sure we pressure the QB enough that he puts it up to grabs so those boys in the backend have a field day. But we won't just blitz the whole game, Coach Flannery will make sure it's at the right time.

SB: We'll see if it performs how you say it should versus the Mules, thanks for your time Irv.

                        IC: Aight holmes.
