  • Louisiana selects...

    Rounds 1 & 2

1.4 CB Grady Collier, Southeastern Missouri St.
    5-11, 199 lbs.

The Redhawk conerback is the newest addition to a Voodoo secondary that includes Defensive Rookie of the Year Phillip "King" George, and 5th year vet Monty Wollmuth. Collier is very talented cover guy who's game may be similar to George's but on a bigger frame, and doesn't seem to be afraid of contact either. We'll see what type of impact he has in a starting role this season.

    2.5 DT Teddy Smoczyk, Duke
    6-4, 315 lbs.

Smoczyk is a big DT being ask to play a DE spot in Louisiana's 3-4 scheme primarily as another big body to help against the run. He'll be joining the Defensive line unit that Includes 8th year vet DE Dan Ehret & 4th year NT Vernon Pederson, and will most likely start at one of the DE spots for the Voodoo this season.

Nice to see another writer in the Imperial! Of the two corners, the kid from SE Missouri State was the one I had at the top ....

            Rounds 3-5

3.4 WR Orlando Hoffman, Florida State
            5-9, 181 lbs.

Hoffman is an undersized receiver who has displayed soft hands through out his college career. While he may be a step slow in the speed department, he makes up for it with textbook route running which allows him to get downfield. He will be in a battle for one of the starting roles for WR since the biggest passing threat the Voodoo had in 13 yr vet SE Ryan McCellion retired earlier in the offseason.

4.5 QB Joel Lane, Mayville State
            6-3, 224 lbs.

Lane has the prototype build for a QB with his size, and performed well in his position drills at the combine. He won't see the field much as Alfred Sullivan is the man down in the bayou, but Lane could to develop into a quality backup - time will tell.

            5.4 WR Michael Terrell, Stanford
            5-11, 187 lbs.

Terrell was man to look for when Stanford had to convert a third down, and the Voodoo need someone like that to move the chains. His hands may not be as soft as the earlier pick, but Terrell displays textbook route routing ability and has knack for finding a way to catch a poorly thrown ball. He will be battling with the rest of the WR unit to see the field on offense, but he most certainley can make an impact immediately on special teams.

                  Rounds 6 & 7

                  6.5 RB Kerry Young, Syracuse
                  6-2, 231 lbs.

The Voodoo went for depth at the RB position in the 6th round. Young is a big, physical north south type back. His Vision and Speed are not things you rave about but he is more elusive than one might think and occasionally finds a way to get outside. With time the Voodoo think he can become a complete back with his pass blocking and ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. If Young pans out, he'll be battling with the rest of the RB's behind Louisiana's feature back Vincent Tribble to see who will spell him this season.

7.4 WR Vince Grant, Louisiana State
                  6-0, 196 lbs.

Grant is the Voodoo's last pick of the 2018 Amatuer Draft. He's not known for his hands, but his route running is textbook and he seems to just make plays on third down. However where he can make the most impact for the Voodoo is as a return man on kickoffs. If he can make plays there he will be exciting for the Voodoo fans to watch for years to come.
