BREAKING NEWS: At exactly 3:17 PM EST Phantoms QB and leader Roderick Amos ended the long standing spat between player and ownership by signing a 4 year deal in the $77M range. We sit now with Owner/GM Jester Blaze to discuss that and other topics.
SW: How does it feel to have Roderick buying back into the team and how did it go about happening?
JB: It's absolutely huge for us here at 1 Phantom Place!! We've had a Back-To-What-Made-Us focus going since our pathetic 2017 season and that seems to have drawn "Bake's" attention. He's fully engaged now and we expect to bounce back as we did in 2013, 2014, etc... To not have to focus on getting a franchise QB is the biggest relief a GM can ask for. Getting your franchise LT back at 100% after injury is a close 2nd. We got both this free-agency period so looking at those two as pick-ups it will be hard for another team to have a better off-season than us IMO.
SW: What's the deal with shipping off Monty Wollmuth as he enters his prime? Fans can't like that!
JB: I think fans will be just fine with the move once they see what an ever improving Dwayne Hernandez does in the starting line-up. Dwayne has nearly doubled his talents (potential 34->60) since joining the league a mere 2 seasons ago and we believe he's going to be an IFL force for a long time. We had a log-jam of talent at the safety position and felt we'd get best return on our most talented player so Monty has a fresh start. Louisiana's 1st Rounder is nothing to scoff at and we feel great about the move for both teams.
SW: What's the plan to utilize the 1.12 pick?
JB: Simply to get the best value. That's all part of our plan. That's what built a powerhouse. We sort of got into focusing too much on certain positions and at times were impatient in recent times. We're going back to judiciously using our draft resources for the long term betterment of the franchise and that means being open to many ways of this thing playing out.
SW: How strange was it to watch the post-season from your couch last year? What's the chances of that happening this season?
JB: It was very awkward but we saw it coming before week 17 so it was no surprise by the time I blunted up on my couch. There's currently some GREAT teams in the NC. We can't cry about it. We just focus on those teams... what they're doing. They've leapfrogged us for a reason. Maybe they've found a new wrinkle in this game. If so we need to find the same wrinkle and find a way to get on top again.
I gotta go, man. Nice talking with ya!
SW: There you have it Phantom Phans. The latest news from our ears to your eyes...
