  • Liberty Rookie Draft.

1.5. RT Kyle Ford, Appalachain State
    6'4" 308 lbs
    average volatility
    did not interview

Two corners, a quarterback, and a wide reciever were taken ahead of Ford, and that left the two best players left on the board and both were tackles. One's a very high volatile hulk smash kinda tackle, the other is an average volatility type with Bruce Banner intelligence. Ford has four great scores in the combine and is superior in the dash, while Cunningham has a poor score in Solecismic Test. Doesn't mean he won't be a good player, just not my kinda guy. The pick was made, and we stand by it. It wasn't the player we were targeting, but the ot was a good pickup. He'll be splitting time with the injury prone starter, six year pro and 2013 All Imperial League Second Team OT Frankie Prescott.

Bold move! Gonna make watching the 2, and other OTs in this draft, develop real interesting.

      I'll chime in here.

#1 rated player in the draft fell to Fresno. Like LA, Fresno did not target a T, but talent was to much to pass up. Also like LA the rookie will have to earn his way onto the field, but I do see a trip to Europe in Cunninghams future.

Also, Ford would have went at 1.6 if LA would have taken Cunningham at 1.5

I interviewed both Cunningham - H2R and Ford - Underrated

        Just sayin'.

I thought Cunningham was good, but I thought Ford would be better suited to being a backup/part time starter....I'm not sure Cunningham would have played behind either of my ot's, and since either tackle was too good to pass on, I figured ...what the hell..I'll take the smart one, with lower volatility, and there ya go...

Well, my OPINION is first off, he's a good player, just not a GREAT player. I think at 1.5, he's a stretch. The difference between 43 reps and 33 is, 43 ties the league record help by Kennedy Marsh, Leonard Wingfield and Shaun Cunningham . 33 is just........good. His endurance is also questionable. At 1.5 you want a guy who can play every down. When compared with Cunningham, Ford is just lacking. I would have traded down to 1.10, 1.15 and picked him up. He's just not a top 5 player.

he has time to bulk up in tc...a few of them I think...and we can always hit the conditioning in tc as well...average volatility, mostly blue combine scores, no green ones like the other guy, only one red one, better agility, time to develop...another scout had my guy as underrated...the other hard to read. Both will be good players.

I like my guy and that's all there is to it...LOL.

I would have went with the other T but both are can't miss. PS love the new helmet.

                  1.28. CB Lamont Cano, Syracuse
                  Trade from LAW
                  Underrated

Lackluster veteran corners prompted the move for an influx of youth and speed at the position. Looks to be slightly above average in interceptions, he's good 40 time, good agility, good position drill, and good Solecismic Score indicates a kid that can at least begin contributing in the nickle and dime packages, hopefully press for starting time.
The kid can hit, play man 2 man well, excellent in zone packages, and solid in play recognition and endurance. Interceptions look solid, slightly above average. Unfortunately, he'll not be a contributor on special teams.

Phantoms believe LA has a good one! Hopefully dropping back didn't lose us our primary target.

3.5. WR Rob Dodge, Arkansas Tech
                      Interviewed: hard to read

We needed some wideouts, and we had one targeted in the first round and bada bing...he was taken one pick ahead of us. The Mock Drafts were right, for once. So...we reached a bit here.

Dodge has solid bars in everything but special teams areas. He doesn't return any kicks, and his endurance bars are....lackluster. Maybe even missing in action. But what the hell...he's a reach, I know it, but I need bodies at the position to get me through until I can draft some sure handed wideouts.

                          5.5. RDE Luther Farley, Duke
                          6-4, 276 lbs
                          did not interview
                          average volatility

Pretty good bars all around, excellent pass rush technique, run defense, and endurance are coupled with average pass rush strength and punishing hitter ratings.

We're awfully young at DE already with both starters in their third year, but the backups are ....lackluster. Drafted for depth at that posiiton.

5.28. FB Gus Swayda, Oklahoma State
                            5-11 223 lbs
                            high volatility
                            interviewed: as scouted

Swayda fills a need for us. He's got pretty good strength, good third down running and power, great blitz pickup, and endurance. Needs work on run and pass blocking.. 40 time is good, and agility is really nice, so there's a chance he'll improve on his hole recognition and blocking skills. He'll definitely have to bulk up, and it may take a season or two for him to reach a good fullback weight, but he'll have to play from day one.

                              6.5. QB Julio Alston, USC
                              6-2 214 lbs
                              did not interview
                              Low volatility
                              average sole test

Julio hits our roster at a 6/42 and 8 formations and an affinity with a leader. Not exactly limelight material, but if you've seen our backups, he's better than they are AND he's maxed out as a kick holder.
But...in a pinch...he's good in all distances of passing, bu third down passing, two minute offense, and scramble frequency are all below average. Everything else is serviceable should we have to insert him in the lineup.
Personality profile reveals a 91 in leadership, 85 in loyalty, and 73 in peronsolity. Nice. All better ratings than Debussy our starter!
