  • Iowa City Offseason Press Conference

    Iowa City Press-Citizen

It is this time of the year again. Football season is over and the new season is several months away. Free time for the fans, but not for the front office personnel of the teams of the great IFL.

Yesterday, owner / GM sidewinder66 of the local Snipe Hunters held a press conference about the state of the team, potential offseason moves and a first glance at the upcoming season.

First of all, the owner expressed his content with head coach Jorge Hostetler, ending rumors of a potential coaching change in Iowa City. "I am of course disappointed that the team didn't reach the playoffs like last year", he said, "but it was very close and came down to week 17, and coach Hostetler has lead this team on the right path. With the addition of Defensive Coordinator Brian Bove we hope that we will be in the playoff hunt again, and are confident that the Snipe Hunters will make a playoff appearance."

The Snipe Hunters are not known for making big splashes in free agency and they decided not to go after the big name free agents on the market. At the questions of why the team didn't even try to sign star quarterbacks Tobias Stanfield and Jon Cavazos, sidewinder66 replied: "Those quarterbacks certainly are able to elevate a football team to the next level, but I have confidence in our QBs Sammy Mathews and Conrad Wooley and I am sure that they will do their jobs just fine. This franchise believes in steady improvement over the years and building through the draft, rather than risking success in future years for that one shot at a title, that is still unprobable at best."

Speaking of the draft, the Snipe Hunters are owning two first round picks in this year's rookie draft and they are not willing to tip their hand. "I can't tell you in which way we are going. We have carefully evaluated the draft class and made our draft board accordingly. There are some great players available who will make every team better that selects them."
Very diplomatic answer, Mr. GM, very diplomatic indeed.

From members of the coaching staff, rumors have been heard that there might be a little quarterback controversy coming up, involving veteran QB Mathews and his possible successor, fifth year player Conrad Wooley, who commanded the offense well, when Mathews missed three games due to a stress fracture during the season.
When asked about this topic, sidewinder66 replied that he had confidence that Coach Hostetler will make sure that the best player will start on gameday.

We of the press are certainly looking forward to see the team play again and hopefully to make the playoffs again.

Great writeup! It's cool to see owners get involved in the immersion aspect. That's the best part of this league...owners who get attached to their teams and players. That's most of the reason I keep coming back year after year even though my team pretty much sucks and I couldn't gameplan my way out of a paper bag. Good job bro!!!

      Nice job.

The paper in Iowa City is called the Press-Citizen. And its a liberal rag. But thats a personal opinion. Just thought if you wanted a little realism you might want that info.

Again, great job and thanks for doing it.
