  • TigerHawks Draft Report

The Tulsa TigerHawks have been on the look out for a left Tackle that can produce like legend Tony Esqueda. This season the team drafted former Kansas Jayhawk left tackle Louie Grier. At 6'5" and 316 pounds, Grier will get every opportunity to win the starting left tackle job at camp.
Grier was named All Big 12 1st team and earned Honorable Mention All-American honors. He was also a finalist for the Outland Trophy.

Not to derail your post here, but I was after the same thing last year when I drafted Erbaugh. Now the benefit of having a scout who knows what the fuck he is talking about in this case is crystal cear, because 5 picks later, Portland choose Stickney....Pix included.

Funny thing is, Stickney wasn't even on my radar. My scout had him rated much lower, like a 77 or some shit. GAHHHH

If I remember correctly Erbaugh had the better bars, Stickney the better combine.

I went with the best combine. It was between Grier and Rasmussen. And Grier won out. I hope he has good blocking numbers. I know his blocking strength isnt that good, but that is the last think i look at. In fact, i really dont care about blocking strength.

Not sure bout that....didn't I read that blocking strength is how long a player can hold the block? That's a pretty important stat, IF I'm correct.

                lol

There are other guys in this league that know more about the game than I do - trust me. I am so overrated. That said, I've always believed that blocking strength matches up with pass rush strength in some way or another. A guy with a ton of pass rush strength will better take advantage of a lineman with little blocking strength. Something like that.

Center Ray Gozzi, a 6' 2" 279 pound center, joins the TigerHawks after being drafted in the 6th round. Gozzi was a 3 year starter for the Kentucky Wildcats. He was named 3rd string All-SEC. Gozzi has been contact by Coach Poston, who wants him in camp early. Poston stated that "Center is a position we need to upgrade. If Ray has a strong preseason, he may start."

MLB Darrin Kapp comes to Tulsa via Wake Forest. Kapp a 6 foot 229 pounder, is a run stuffing animal. He led the Deacons with 167 tackles as a senior. Kapp is undersized for the Imperial League but Coach Poston has already discussed this with trainer/weight coach Muskie McRoid, "I want Muskie to bulk him up. He is a little weak and undersized, but I feel confident Muskie can get him up to size in a short period of time."
