  • On Notice: Free Agent Tag!

Fellow Americans, the off-season might seem far away but it truly is almost upon us. Hearken back a few months and many of you will remember an unruly time here in the IFL. GMs were at each others throats like savage barbarians! Old fought new. Old fought old. New fought new. It was ugly!

The ongoing frustration was and probably still is in part based on lack of turnaround in these IFL quarters - plenty of reach arounds, but not so much turnaround.

Will it go away? Not of it's own accord!

So with that said, after long deliberation it behooves me to present to you - the IFL fan - the first target to officially go On Notice in the IFL: The Franchise Tag!

In a league where the going sentiment is that it's too easy for GMs to retain their current players you further provide a safety net almost nullifying any possibility of quality players hitting the FA market.

Franchise Tag, you are On Notice!!!!!

Before I hand the floor over to the general IFL public for discussion I'd just like to point out that this is YOUR IFL and we here at the Colbert Report want to know what's on your mind. Drop us a line if you've got any thoughts on what we should be focusing on. Perhaps you've something that should go On Notice? Maybe someone deserves mention as an Alpha-Dog of the Week or an old Tip of the Hat/Wag of the Finger...

I am the IFL and so can you!

Abolishing the FT is a horrible idea. If your unable to draft, or aggressively pursue free agents to the point where your great plan is to cripple other owners so you have a better chance is weak. There is free agency, the draft, trades, late free agency....tons of opportunities to strengthen your team without trying to handicap other owners who already did their homework and built a strong team in order to give you a better chance at players...

Everyone here has an equal opportunity at players. I have no motive in my opinion. I think I have used the FT MAYBE twice in 6 years. I don't need it this year either. I just don't like the idea of getting rid of the franchise tag option. It's a lame, and weak idea.

I've thought about throwing out the idea of getting rid of the tag, but not sure that solves the problem. I can't remember the last time I used it on a guy who had good bars.

I just wish that the salary system was designed better. I feel like the game took a huge step back from 2k4 to 2k7 in that area. I'm hoping that there is a new game released at some point........or in a perfect world(ok there'll never be one) this will be fixed in a patch. IMO, I just don't see how this was screwed up so badly.

Wolverine Studios is working in a football game. Not sure how far along it is. Probably in its infancy. But it is a light at the end of the tunnel.
