  • Better Know an IFL District: Los Angeles

Today we sit with the 2nd guest in our ever-growing segment Better Know an IFL District!, David "Iceman" 99. The iceman touts a numeral as a sirname and is the leader of LA's great Liberty district: The Fightin' Liberty!!

SC: Let's get right to the point. You traded talented quarterback Edward Jacobs to Salt Lake City - mormon county - and now the Liberty sit at 1-6: Do you hate Christianity and America?!?!?

DI: *laughs* No Steve, I can not say that we do. I mean we do sport the colors of our great nation each and every week, so I think we have a solid grasp on our patriotic beliefs as well as our faith. But since we felt we were going to an early rebuild mode, we needed to see what our younger players could do for us. Plus drafting DeBussy in the first helped us work out the deal with Salt Lake. And at the moment we could hold 2 top 20 picks in next years draft.

SC: As one of a few IFL teams displaying American colors, the Liberty are obviously close to my heart. Now we can sit here and BS each other about nonsense terms like "defense" and "sportsmanship" but this is America and we want to throw bombs! Attacking over great distances is our forte so what can we expect on the football field in those regards? What type of aerial attack is on the agenda in L.A.?

DI: I think that the aerial attack is going to continue to grow in L.A., but for us to do that we are going to have to hit up the commander and chief in an effort to help us tap into the teams funds and bring in the talent we need to make it happen. Right now we are more like a 3rd world military, all talk and no weapons to back it up.

SC: If you could give someone in the IFL a career-ending injury who would it be?

DI: Honestly if I had to chose one it would be Clayton Chung... He has always been a thorn in our side from our days with the Georgia/Columbia organization. I would not want to see him hurt... But man I wish he would retire.

    SC: Clayton says "Hi"!

    SC: Moving on...

SC: Who are the Liberty's fiercest rival? Is there one?

DI: Being the door mat for most teams, you can not really say you have a major rival. But I do feel that the Heroes/Liberty rivalry is one of our fan favorites. Getting to face off with you cross state rival twice a year is great. That and there is only 200 miles between the two stadiums so a lot of our fans travel to the away games.

SC: Who are the Liberty in 4 seasons? What kind of team do you foresee?

DI: With 6 #1 picks in the next 4 seasons, and plenty of cap space I see us being very aggressive both in free agency and via trades to bring in the players that best fit our system. I plan on us being a force sooner rather then later and I feel our division is ripe for the taking. Watch out fellows we mean business.

SC: The Liberty are what ice cream flavor and why? Before you answer try some of my own Ben & Jerry's "Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream"!

DI: *laughs* hmmmm, never really thought of that. But I would say Rocky Road. And I mostly say that because the journey this season is going to put us thru our struggles and challenges. Hopefully we will get it all out of the way this season though.

SC: Before we leave. If you could stand in front of the IFL and make one insightful point. What would it be?

DI: In a time when professional sports are normally dominated by a small cluster of teams year in and year out. Its nice to see the competitive balance that exists in the IFL. Yes we [have] power houses in the IFL, but we have also had 9 different champions over the last 11 seasons. That is parity baby!!

SC: We thank you for your time Mr. 99.

DI: Thank you for having me here.

I am the IFL and so can you!
