The story seems as old as time itself... Of course, in reality it's only been since last season but I said "seems"! Anyway, the story is that an opposing quarterback faces the Phantom's phantom defense and has a career day. Today that man was Mann - Alvin Mann - of the Pennsylvania Lions, who went 24/28 for 255 passing yards and FIVE touchdowns.
Today even the usually mighty run defense joined the Swiss Cheese Group, the offense was stymied, and Our Beloved played one of the least disciplined games in memory en route to the 2nd worst defeat in team history 41-15 at the hands of the Lions.
There are many areas that need focusing on with this season's Phantom team. Sure. But one theme that's getting common is the lack of takeaways by the defense stretching back to last season. There's not enough INT's, not enough fumbles caused, and certainly not enough fumbles recovered. In short: THIS DEFENSE NEEDS MORE COWBELL!!
Rumor has it that this fact is not lost on team owner Jester Blaze and that after a decade of balanced roster focus and a Ring in possession Mr. Blaze might use next season's bounty of draft picks to see just how talented a defensive squad can get in the IFL and take aim at some long standing defensive records.
