  • Looking Back: Allan Ho, RB

    by Spark Wonup
    Lawrence Sun Times

Having contributed his services in other leagues earlier in life, Allan Ho only played 6 seasons in the IFL but during those 6 seasons he was a scoring force to be dealt with. A fierce competitor who seemed to get stronger and tougher as games went on and as the goal line got closer, Ho tore up the league for 74 rushing TDs and 9 receiving TDs from 2003 to 2008.

Allan's career was split evenly between Vancouver and Orlando... and he still ranks 1st on BOTH teams for all time rushing TDs.

Never accumulating less than 1,000 yards or 10 rushing TD's in a given season, Allan was the face of consistency during his short lived IFL stint.

I caught up with 13 year Phantom safety Merle Peavy to ask about Ho, Peavy's once upon a time division rival: "Allan brought it every down. Pop! Pop! Pop! Right up until the final whistle. He was very tough to play against and the games you did you really wanted the clock to run down cause you knew that he wasn't ever going to."

Like many early IFL stars who migrated from other leagues Allan never got an IFL ring but his memory lives on as a championship caliber competitor.

Allan "smaka" Ho was a phenomenal RB who was a force. He was part of that young Vancouver team that never really got it going.

When I think of key RB's, I think of that entire division. James Tart, Jacques Crosby, and Allan Ho. Sorry Jave, Gaston Lomelli didn't make my list...

Tart was actually going to be the focus of this "Looking Back" but I figure I, or someone else, will have time still to get to him. I'm trying to do these in a quasi-retirement timeframe order so as to not leave a player way behind ala NFL HOF voting.

Haha, well two things Lomeli had going against him. When I drafted Connell it moved him to the number two spot, and by the time I traded Connell, I acquired Bice and had the deadly three headed monster in Hamilton, Bice and Martinez, thus focusing my offensive attack in the passing game.
I really believe Lomeli was one of those rare players who given the chance, could have been one the top 20 rushers all time in the league. He consistently played way above his "bars" and when he did start, normally played very well.
