  • Looking Back: Charles Yon, CB

    by Spark Wonup
    Lawrence Sun Times

Only the oldest of the old IFL'ers remember "C-Dog" but I guarantee every one of them does.

How good was he? No one will ever know as he, like another "C-Great", had his career wiped out harshly due to injury. This is for certain: In Charles' 4 seasons with St. Louis he returned 6 INTs for TDs, a career record that stands to this day though other defenders have had 10 seasons to surpass it.

Ask Louisiana fans about Oct 23, 2003 and you might be asked to leave the establishment for intending to start a riot. Only 3 other IFL defenders have returned more INTs for TDs in their CAREERS than Mr. Yon's 3 on that magical day.

Lawrence's own Tobias Stanfield never played against Yon... thankfully as he tells it: "I was young and wide eyed at that time and throwing picks to anyone willing to catch one. If I had to face Charles it might have psychologically destroyed my career. Luckily, that didn't happen."

The IFL gods have deprived us of too many possible memories. It's hard to figure that we lost more on any other single player. Charles Yon, lightning in a bottle...

Excellent job and idea. And i'm not just sayin that cause C-Dog was one of my own.

Media stuff has fallen off over the past couple of years but yeah, I encourage anyone, even owners who have taken over for someone else to go back and do some stuff on your teams history as well as new stuff. Doesn't have to be a great big article, just tidbits to wet the cockels of our hearts.

          My cockels have been wetted.

Great idea and great memory. I remember old C-Dog. You should do a, 'Where is he now?' piece.

I still maintain that the CB on the other side, D-Dog was the better corner.

C-Dog was too hard to have a custom figure made for (for my bestest buddy). He would have had to look like Troy Polamalu's twin brother. Not many NFL figures of defensive backs I guess...
