Hi Blog, how are you? Been awhile since i've written in you, don't feel lonely old pal, i'll write in you alot this year.
Our first order of buisness is to discuss Andy Rouleaus retirement. This was a toughie for me, although he didn't play great last year he was still an important part of our team and the hope was that he would come back and maybe regain some form. Alas he must of felt the pundits and talking heads were right and decided to step away from the game. Last year was his worse season stat wise and I know he didn't wanna come back and ruin his legacy, but damnit Andy, I believed in you.
I guess you could say things didn't quite work out for him in St. Louis like we had hoped, but cest la vie, you gotta try and I don't regret trading for him. Now he can settle down on his ranch and hopefully go into the Hall Of Fame as a Matador/American.
Kelly Wheat also retired, not as much a surprise though even though he played well in a limited role for us last year. Once one of the premiere backs in the IFL, he too was not the same as he used to be and decided to hang it up after a season in St. Louis, godspeed "Crisp".
SS Walter Borja, a Cardinal since the leagues inception also decided to call it quits over the winter. I remember Walter was a SLB when we drafted him in the dispersal draft and though it took him a couple of years to adjust to playing SS he turned into a solid if unpectacular player. He suffered from Bret Saberhagen disease where every other year he would pop up and have a really strong campaign. Minor injuries always seemed to follow Walter around but when he was healthy he was a stalwart player for us. I personaly hoped he would come back and help solidify our secondary but alas the wear and tear had apparently caught up with him and he decided to call it quits. Good luck in the future Walter.
Finaly, the least expected and most crushing retirement was of Noel "The Saint" Daniels. Noel has been the QB of our defense from the leagues inception, creating havoc and striking fear in opposing offenses. In 10 seasons Noel failed to reach the 80 tackle mark just once, in his injury shortened 2008 campaign. He retired 1 tackle shy of the all time league record and as the all time assists leader. His contributions to our team on and off the field cannot be measured, although the stats can, and theres no doubt that he leaves the game as an all-time great. We had hoped he'd return this year as we attempted to reascend to the top of the league but alas he chose otherwise. For our teams entire history the defense has revolved around Noel, Maldanado and Sandstrom, and it's always hard to watch a cornerstone of your team leave.
