It took three weeks longer than we'd hoped but with today's 28-16 victory over division rival Orlando the Phantoms have chalked up our first victory of the season.
Dan Lenhart's THREE interceptions (one of which set up the drive in which we took the final lead of the game and one of which sealed the game in our own endzone with under 2 mins remaining in the 4th) led our defense which pulled down 6 INT's, earned 3 sacks and also forced a fumble and subsequent recovery. Our team came out on top 6-0 in the turnover battle, a great stat to hear after losing the ball to our first two opponents 5 times more than we took it from them.
Tobias Stanfield earned the first victory of his career with a quiet but well managed 17 of 24 attempts for 186 yards, 1 TD and 0 INT's. This is all we want from Tobias this early in his career. We'll let him open it up in future seasons.

On a sour note this victory came at a huge price as we lost safety David Kaczmarek (the oldest of the Phantom's two Kaczmarek brothers) for the season when he ruptured his achilles tendon in the 2nd half of today's game. Sadly, with 14 seasons under his belt already, it's possible this could have been David's last IFL game. It goes without saying how important he is to us and we all hope he'll be back but this is a very serious injury and thus the odds seem against that happening.
