I never said I was very consistent boys and girls, so don't be surprised I am back after another couple weeks off. I got a little cash one night in Vegas, got a little drunk, and found myself sleeping in a little dumpster which may or may not have added to the smell of all the crappy buffet food I seemed to have puked up on myself while sleeping. I had no more cash when I woke up, and let me tell you it was pretty damn hard trying to hitch rides across the country to get a feel for the season over there again. I am here though, and ready to spit out some chunks of words about the going-ons around the league.
- Between 2003 and 2006 the AC South was a battle between two teams, St. Louis and Louisiana. They tied for first place each year, with tie breakers deciding who won the division and went to the playoffs. The VooDoo took it in 2006 and since then have been down, oh so down. Last year saw a decent 9-7 record, but they really didn't factor into things as their arch-nemisis St. Louis was 13-3. Now we see Louisiana and once forgotten QB Angelo Hairston making waves again with their latest win over division favorites Murfreesboro. They are tied for first in the south and we wish them luck. They have some tough games coming up and I for one hope to see them keep up their challenge for the division title.
- Our beloved defending champion Lawrence Phantoms have now lost seven in a row after an opening week win over Vermont. Tobias Stanfield is throwing INT's at a faster pace then he has before, the defense is giving up more scores then the women even I can score on.
- Speaking of the Lawrence defense, did you see Tulsa's Ken Singleton rushed for 247 yards and 5 TDs against them in week 8? That is the second time Singleton has gone over 200 yards this season. I am officially starting the Ken Singleton Record Watch. Halfway through the season and he needs 1000 yards rushing to pass Alan Crespo's 2005 record of 2,06 yards. With 14 TDs, he needs only 5 more to pass Jacques Crosby's 2005 record of 18 rushing touchdowns.
- This seems like a year of parity so far. The AC North has all four teams within 2 games of each other. Three teams at 4-3 in the NC North. In fact the only division with a team starting to pull away is in the AC West where Portland is out front by a couple games at 6-1. I will lok those boys in for the division title right now.
- After a bye week, undefeated Texas visits Newark in week 9. Newark is undefeated at home this year so far. Little Rock visits Orlando, the Pirates are 2-0 against NC South teams so far this year. The East has a chance to knock down the high flying South this week and it will be interesting to watch.
- Some great AC battles in week 9 I will watch, the aforementioned VooDoo visiting a Norflok team that looks to have turned things around and now lead the AC East with a 4-3 record. Everyone loves an Iowa City-Wichita(even with 5 straight loses now this year) battle even though those owners lost thier typing fingers lately, and Portland visits Montreal where the Seals look to squash another team trying to rise from the ashes of their bad pasts.
- After trade rumors that have not gone away 100%, West Virginia's RB Nicky Kersey has not fumbled the last two weeks. He still leads the league though with 8 total.
- Halfway through the season and my head is spinning, the second half should be a blast mi amigos. Enjoy it as I will.
Adios,
