Hey there everyone, I had a chance to sit in a bar this fine Sunday and watch just about every game there was. My neck will be sore for all of that swinging back and forth but it was worth it. I had such a good time watching I had to hurry up and write something up. Plus, who knows when I will have another chance to plug the old laptop in again. My battery is doesn't work on it's own since this thing is about 7 years old, and lets see you worry about finding an outlet when you are sleeping in the back of someone's pickup truck wondering if that last triple grease-burger fueled 'shart' was as bad as it felt or not. Traveling this way between IFL cities is not always an easy thing. To the weeks action and news though.
- There is a guy in Vancouver who goes by the name of Marshall Bradley who plays defensive end. He has never been a full time starter in eight years, and is on his third team of his career. The guy has been getting a little upset from what I hear, about sitting on the bench so much. Well starter Barry Mendenhall is injured and Bradley got to start today in the Whales' 27-17 win over Dakota. What did the guy do? He only had a 4.5 sack game. That is 4.5 sacks more then Mendenhall and other starting DE Zach Thornton have had all year combined. Maybe the old man is motivated, and he has two more weeks to show what he can do before Mendenhall is healthy.
- Norfolk may have snapped out of their early season struggles fueled by one of my favorite things to see, a FB rush for over 100 yards. Marshall Richard had 26 carries for 127 yards and a TD. Norfolk has been trying to pound the ball some with Richard since his rookie season of a year ago and that hasn't changed this season. This is his first time over 100 yards this season though.
- Georgia's Bryant Turner turns me on. I mean that. I couldn't get up and go piss when I was in that bar because of the charizo in my pants as he rushed for 3 TDs today and 132 yards. The kid is the real deal. Future star if things keep going this way.
- I don't know what the rest of the season holds for Cleveland, but I am very impressed with what they have done with a rookie QB. 4-1 and looking strong. Sure Perkins was the #1 overall pick in the draft, but he is still a rookie.
- Orlando QB Jerome Mueller floated around from Hartford to Pittsburgh, and is now in his 4th season in Orlando. Not since his 2004 rookie season with Hartford has anyone ever mentioned him in the press. He earned it though, keep it up Jerome. Yes, that is it, look at the stats yourself to see why.
- I am pretty sure I am ready to name Nicky Doyle, CB for Oakland, Defensive Rookie of the Year right now. 10 tackles, and INT and 4 defensed passes today? The kid is impressive. He is a young Drew Sandstrom (STL), maybe even better in the long run.
- West Virginia has two huge passes from Chad Harding in the final minute against Louisiana to send the game into overtime. The RB Nicky Kersey fumbles the ball in that overtime period in his own territory. The VooDoo get the win. Rough one Beasts, now you are at 2-3 with Boston and Norfolk.
- Wichita started the year 3-0, and then they hit the AC West division. Two losses in a row against Portland and LA over the last two weeks was the result. And they have Anchorage and California the next two weeks. The Outlaws better hope it isn't a divisional thing.
- Defending champs Lawrence gave up an 86 yard TD reception to Texas TE Thomas Valle today. I am not sure those changes on defense have kicked in yet. The Phantoms are looking a little lost in another dimension.
- Clayton Chung, better the Jay Caro this year so far. Bet you never thought those words would be said!
- Speaking of Texas, 5-0. They play Little Rock next week, 5-0. Only one undefeated team after week six when they play each other. Maybe we can see a tie.
- As I was watching the games I had a thought, scoring is up. I checked and it still seems that way. The best defense this year is giving up 16.0 points per game in Oakland. Usually we see a couple teams floating down around 10-12 points per game this early on. Lets blame Texas, their offense averages 36.0 points per game which would blow away Portland's 2011 record if it holds up.
- I feel like having chicken for dinner tonight.
Until next time ladies and gentlemen.
