  • Road Ramblings - 2012 Week 2

So I have been scootin' around the country, as usual, after week one of the 2012 Imperial Football League season. The league is a buzz with excitement. We had upsets in week one, we had exciting finishes, we had some damn good tacos at this little roadside stand in Arizona. Of course anything is great after the runs I got from eating those fish Tacos up around Portland. I think Portland had bad fish. So I am rambling already, lets me ramble about the league, recent past and near future both.

-Lets start with Los Angeles. That team is loco. They blew me away in week one with QB Edward Jacobs throwing up over 400 yards passing and their new kicker putting the game winner through the uprights with four seconds left in the game. I can't wait to see what they do this coming week as the favorite on the road in Georgia, because maybe this team has gotten over the hump some. Afterall, this is a team who before last week had never won a game in which Jacobs threw for over 300 yards. The best they ever managed was a tie last year against Anchorage when Jacobs had over 400 that game as well. Sounds odd, but it's true.

-Madison's Will Irby had a touchdown pass every 3.6 completions last week. I want to personally check his urine. Not sure what I am checking for but I want to check it. Can't wait to see Irby against that badass Mules defensive seconday this week.

-Anyone notice that Boston's WR Brian Christie has been returning punts for nine years in the Imperial League, this being his tenth. He just got his first return for a touchdown last week. Either that is really cool, or really pathetic.

-After one week I can easily say that Oakland is the clear favorite to win the Imperial Bowl this year.*

-Watching rookies is always fun from time to time. Surprise top ten pick, FB Tyrell Smith had one rush for 9 yards, 4 receptions for 18, and no key run blocks. He looked good in his first game overall. Wichita's second round pick, RB Tracy Norris, started for the OUtlaws and finished with 98 yards and 2 touchdowns. Nice. LIttle Rock had a crazy six picks in the 3rd round alone, four of them had playing time in week one. St. Louis had three 4th round picks, two of them started in week one. Vancouver's 6th round WR Gino Shannon had two catches for 17 yards. Seventh round pick Don Hickman, a WR for Louisiana, had two receptions for 57 yards.

-At 32 years of age, Vermont's Virgil Sepulveda is still one of the fastest players in the league, and easily the fastest QB. It's a good thing too, because he couldn't pass very well in week one. Next up is a home game against Cleveland.

-I wonder if Lansing is favored at home over St. Louis by 16 points because of those 4th round rookies they have starting?

Ok, stats are low and most people know how the games went, so the ramblings are much this time around. No fear though, there are games coming and I am sure I will be back. I am getting plenty of questions from the fans so maybe there is a Fans Want To Know coming down the highway.

    Later mi amigos,

    Pinky

*Just kidding, we all know that's impossible. I just like to get the hopes up of those sad Devils fans. They still won't admit their team's nickname is a cheap knockoff of the Madison Demons.
