Hello muchachos! If you remember me you probably missed me, so be sure to drink a cerveza in honor of my return. If you have been wondering where I have been, I shall tell you now. A while back I decided to take a vacation and visit relatives down in Mexico, and upon my return the Border Patrol found about 120lbs. of my special blend of tobacco that they claim is illegal. They also said I wasn't a citizen of this country, so they kicked my butt out instead of sending me to prison. It took a while but I finally learned how to swim so I could back across the border down in Texas. So after missing a whole season I have some things to catch up on in my first article back, and I will do that now.
-Lawrence wins the big one in 2011, can't say that surprised me too much as they are a damn good team.
-Dakota won the NC North? When did Dakota get a team and are they in North or South Dakota? Congrats to them wherever they are.
-I see Iowa City finally failed to win the AC North. They had won it four times in a row, must be rough for them to swallow that one.
-Holy guacamole, you miss a season and some of your favorite players leave the game. I am greatly saddened to see Isaiah Graybill, David Harbour, Gregory Boyd, James Tart, Julian Cartagena, John Maynard, and many others retire.
Ok hombres, now lets move onto some more current topics, some stuff that has been happening this off-season.
-Rico Sprouse moved from Vermont to Cleveland. That may be one of the biggest surprise coaching moves I have seen in a while, especially after Cleveland finally knocked off the Snipe Hunters from the top of the division. Hope it works out for them though, and I hope Vermont can bounce back from that loss with near rookie coach Amos Harrigan.
-The two top teams in the AC South will have rookie head coaches this year, with St. Louis and Murfreesboro bringing college coaches to head up their programs. This happens while Houston brings in former Cardinal coach Kent Silvanic. Louisiana is the only team in that division without a change at the top spot.
-Speaking of the top spot, the true top spot at a few teams have had some change over this season as well. Once again Murfreesboro's name is brought up, with Kobeck gone and TUFFY in. With the Mules kocking at the door the last couple seasons under Kobeck, Mules fans are hoping TUFFY can give the team the motivation to make a run deep into the playoffs. Meanwhile regular season powerhouse Portland had an unexpected change as Jeff left and JMO comes in. JMO has his some work ahead trying to get the Seals over the hump and not sliding back. Good luck gentlemen.
-Now I know that things are just getting warmed up in free agency and trades and everything draft related, but I just want to say there are several moves I love so far. Tulsa picking up CB Oliver McKenzie in a trade with the Mules and bringing the former Fire (modern day General) back into the NC South. Texas, Georgia, and Little Rock will have to make sure that 2nd and 3rd WR gets open.
-Tulsa and Montreal pulled off a bit of a blockbuster trade. I will be watching this one closely to see if one team comes out better then the other. WR Abriktsen goes to Tulsa and Montreal gets DE Marshall Brummitt as the key pieces of the deal.
-Lets not let this deal go unnoticed. OAKLAND BROUGHT BACK DT TOD WOODS! Maybe you remember Tod Woods Oakland fans? Back in 2003 the rookie DT played for Oakland, and was then traded away in, if I recall correctly, a pretty controversial trade. After one season in Little Rock Woods spent the last 7 seasons in Pittsburgh.
-I like Salt Lake City's moves to strengthen their defense so far. Through trades they have brought in young DE Quentin Caro from Cleveland, and veteran LB James Barber. Can a solid defense turn around the lost Stallions?
I think that is enough for now. I should be back much, much sooner this next time though. I will be at the draft watching it go down live and I expect to have plenty of comments on it.
Adios,
Pinky Del Nacho
