With the offense not yet on track, the Stallions turned to their playmakers on defense to win their home opener at "The Stable". The defense made it a very physical game, pressuring Demons QB Loving relentlessly and picking him off twice for scores. Loving, who had been impressive through the preseason finished with just a 40.1 QB Rating.
Gerald Weidner closed out the Demons with a 52-yard interception return for a TD early in the 4th quarter. The return capped off a fine day for one of the fastest outside linebackers in the game (4.37 speed) which saw him register 10 tackles & 3 Assists. For the day, the linebacking corps finished with 30 tackles, 9 assists, 3 sacks, 3 hurries, 2 ints, and 2 TDs. That's a promising start for the season.
The celebrations didn't last long however as the Stallions quickly turned their sights on this week's game in Vancouver. "Vancouver (1-0) ran the ball well last week and we realize that we've got to take that away from them if we expect to go into their house and get a win" said defensive coordinator B. J. Burke.
