The silence that followed the end of the Assassins season, only served to lull the league into a false confidence that Oakland was going to just fade quietly away. However, overnight, the Oakland front office shocked the league by comming to terms with Little Rock that sent DT Tod Woods, TE Joseph Flores, and LG Wilfredo Sheffield to L.R. for the second overall pick in the draft. The Assassins were already guaranteed the top pick, and it was no secret that they were going to draft Air Force's Gene Hamilton, however, that left 2 time Heisman trophy winner, and the nations top tailback on the board. So in an aggressive move, they opted to move some of the top talent on their defense, in DT Woods, to Little Rock to draft the one-two punch of Hamilton and Connell to solify their offense for the next decade. Shockwaves went across the league has an owners meeting was announced regarding the heavy price paid for this trade, but in the end, after 22 hours of negociation, it was decided that the trade would stand, and Oakland has their boys.
We caught Woods at the airport awaiting his flight to Little Rock to get his reaction."Ahh, I am disappointed to leave Oakland, espically since we finally got the offensive players we so desperatly needed last year, however, I love the Little Rock Organization, and it will be fun to rejoin some of my boys that I hang with during the offseason. That team is serious, and ready to win, so all in all its cool, I wish Oakland luck unless they have what it takes to meet them during the playoffs, then its all business and I will destroy em."
And no sooner does Oakland draft Hamilton and Connell, who were already in the bay area, it was announced this morning that they have signed 5 year deals that will keep them on track in training camp and the pre-season. The bay area is buzzing with exictment, as fans are fanatic in anticipation as to what the season holds for the Assassins this year. More to come as the draft and free agency wraps up for this year!
