  • A Funny Thing Happened On My Way To Anchorage.

Sorry I have been absent for a couple of weeks now, loyal readers. I seem to have developed a small problem with my laptop which has limited my ability to use it as much. Somehow both of the hinges broke on my laptop, and the screen flops around like Alan Crespo after his knee injury. So no longer can I type and walk at the same time. I shall adapt though, fear not.

Now, on to the article. A funny thing happened on my way to Anchorage. Being so far away from the civilized world, it took a while when I am left with walking and begging for rides as my way of travel. So while on my way to the headquarters of the Lynx, they lost two straight games and fell out of first place in the AC West. A loss to Portland, followed up by a loss to Vancouver in week 12 sent them tumbling down to 7-4, and one game behind rival Portland. When I got here, in Anchorage, I noticed the offense was still holding up their end of the deal, but all of the sudden the defense looked crap. No going easy on them, they have given over 30 points two weeks in a row. That is not Lynx like this year, and if they get that fixed and back on track then all will be right.

So since the Lynx are blowing chunks in honor of my arrival, I am not even going to bother talking about them anymore. Instead I will talk about a couple of things that happened on my way up here (long before that dogsled ride that took me that last 100 miles into Anchorage).

I actually spent week 12 game day in Vancouver. I just happened to be in the right city at the right time, at least until towards the end of the game anyways. I was in a bar watching the Whales-Lynx game, and the place was packed. Some hot Asian girls in Vancouver, and I had this cute little chick buying me beers as we watched the game. I wasn’t turning down free Canadian beer, and she kept putting her hands all over me. The first half had the place going wild, with a tied game at halftime, 14-14. With three straight losses and two really bad performances, young QB Xavier Armstrong had been taking some heat around here lately. Two touchdown passes in the first half suddenly had he fans feeling good again though. As the 3rd quarter began, my little Asian cutie was wanting to take me home, I told her not yet though. I was playing hard to get. And I wanted to see the game. It was a great decision on my part. In the first 5 minutes of the 3rd quarter there were 3 touchdowns. With a 66 yard pass and a Steiner INT, Vancouver was up 14 points in the first 2 minutes. The Lynx marched down field and answered after that. It was a great sequence, especially sitting among Killer Whale fans. Except for a FG, not much happened the rest of the game. So halfway through the 4th quarter I was getting ready to take off with my hot little Asian chick……..until my hand discovered it was a hot little Asian guy. I left for Anchorage right away, and ran the first 15 miles.

A few days before Vancouver I was in Portland, another city celebrating a win over Anchorage. It had been a few days since the game winning FG with four seconds left in the game, but the city was still on a high from it. I mingled with the fans some, and I had a goal. I wanted to see how the fans were feeling about DE Brian Adamov. Last time I had been through this town the locals were pretty down on Adamov. Drafted in the first round two years ago, fans and local media were talking bust after a rookie season which only saw Brian play in only 10 games with 2 starts. Eleven tackles and ½ sack sums up his stats. Adamov has busted out this season though, and there may be no stopping the kid from Oklahoma. He has 37 tackle and 8.5 sacks through Portland’s 11 games. He is top five in the league in sacks and hurries, and top 10 in knockdowns. The sacks have slowed down over the last six games with only one, but he has kept up the pressure and is playing solid. The year has already been a success for him, and the fans have recognized that. He was the most talked about Seal on the defensive side of the ball during my time there.

One last town I will talk about is Reno, where I was before Portland and spent week 11 game day. They had a bye week in week 11, so it was kind of a relaxed atmosphere. After a rough start though, going 0-5, the fans are probably enjoying the peak of their season right now. After a win in week 12, they have rattled off 3 straight wins and 4 in their last 6. I would like to say this team is possibly finishing strong, but even if they are who knows if it carries over into next season. They are one of the oldest teams in the league, especially when it comes to starters. They have a lot of 9 plus year veterans, who are probably reaching the end of their days of starting if not playing. Still, it’s good to see these guys get some success here mid-season. Jacques Crosby is still playing like he always has, balls to the wall. For a guy with little time left in this league he is making the most of it. Good luck to the Wolfpack the rest of the year, because I see a big youth movement coming up soon.

Those are all my stories for today. Once I get enough duct tape to keep my monitor up, I will be back. Just a quick look ahead, I hope to share some more questions from the fans before the week 13 games. After the week 13 games it will be time to revisit my short term predictions I made for the entire league back several weeks ago.

    Adios,
    Pinky Del Nacho

Adamov will be a beast. If my fans were low on him last year, then they are stupid.
