The Beasts entered training camp with questions - Who is going the starting quarterback? Will the team have two new starters at defensive end? Which receivers will step up and nab the top two spots?
The Beasts got some answers.
West Virginia have early indication that they may have hit it big with several of the teams picks, including receivers Kent Mulligan, a sixth round pick, and Jimmy Roberts, the third pick of the third round. Both showed that they will adjust the faster pace of the IFL, and could conceivably be penciled in at starter when the preseason ends.
"I think both receivers left a lasting impression," coach B.J. Green said. "They had two of the more impressive camps. Hopefully they can keep it up."
Roberts was had the fastest 40 time at the combine, too.
"The guys a freaking rocket," Green said.
But the two wideouts were not the most impressive of this year's class of draft picks. The Beasts have a feeling they made out like a hooker at a gangbang with the second round selection of linebacker Carlton Nitschke. Nitschke was the 35th overall selection.
"We arguably got the best linebacker in the draft," Green said. "This guy is going to be a monster."
The team also got a nice boost to the offensive line with another third round selection, center Randy Ellard. Ellard, the third highest rated center in the draft was the third center taken.
"Ellard hasn't dissapointed," Green said.
