Bulldog's OTA's are wrapping up this week after 3 days on "non contact" drills. A few players were absent from OTA's, including future Hall of Famer SS Gregory Boyd. Boyd is choosing not attend this year, and rumor has it that he's actually planning on holding out. Also missing were CB Normand Sims, and C Bryce Carr. Also missing from this year's camp was WR Andrew Robey, who forced his release only to quickly sign with the AC California Heroes. Robey's leadership will be missed this season.
All the rookies seemed to fit in just nicely. QB Kyle Flannery seemed to have a repoire with WR Jamie Williams hooking up with him time and time again for deep gains. Offensive linemen Burt Shepard and Amos Bailey performed adequately, but it is obvious more reps are needed.
Defensive rookies appeared to be learning new positions compared to what they played in college. Filling in at SS for missiing Gregory Boyd, rookie CB Craig Hampton played extremely well at SS. This leads us to believe that Hampton may end up there as a long term staple. Ron Spradling, who played MLB at Duke, found himself at SLB working through drills. He seemed very out of place, but most of this is attributed to playing at a basketball school. Spradling is very raw, but Bulldogs scouts love his athleticism and think that he will lean on that until he becomes more adept to his role with the team.
Only a few more weeks until training camp begins. The big story in Newark is the absence of Gregory Boyd. All calls into Levon Quinn were not returned.
