1. Montreal Firebirds Chad Harding, QB, Miami, FL
Montreal will think about dropping down in a draft loaded with quarterbacks or using their 22 pick for a QB, but they won’t be able to resist Harding who is rated 2nd overall and put in an excellent performance with the scouts. We think that Montreal will be able to pick up a versatile RB later.
2. Boston Dragons Charlie Sharpe, OT, Tennessee
Obviously, the Dragons need an offensive tackle. And with Montreal looking at skill positions, this is a no-brainer.
3. West Virginia Beasts Ken Arbriktsen, WR, Penn State
The Beasts could have went a couple of directions here, but can’t overlook a touted wide-out in a league in which they don’t become available very often.
4. Vancouver Killer Whales Vernon Copeland, DT, Virginia Tech
Howard and Willete are aging and their skills are in rapid decline. Their defensive line needs a lot of help and with Copeland available, they won’t take long to make this pick. He’s a little undersized, so moving to NT may be a problem.
5. Vancouver Killer Whales Andy Crawford, RB, UCLA
With a bonus pick here, the Whales will seek to improve the other side of the ball, selecting Crawford for their backfield, who is already developing nicely to immediate start for Vancouver with very little competition from Lincoln.
6. Texas Trojans Andre Thomason, WR, Nebraska
Chung needs someone to throw to—and the speedy and versatile Thomason will not disappoint Trojan fans. An easy selection for Texas who will be fortunate if he is still available.
7. Vermont Mountaineers Alonzo Lake, CB, California
Lake may be one of the best corners coming out of the draft in recent years. He is only devalued by his inability to return punts and kicks. The Mountaineers will be looking for immediate help in their secondary.
8. Albuquerque Matadors Earnest Bruce, OG, Texas
The Matadors could have went with a QB here. They may also reach down to get Battles at RB. But Albuquerque needs to fill in their offensive line and Bruce is a nice fit for the future.
9. Georgia Generals Warren Farley, CB, Florida
On paper, Georgia’s secondary is weak. With Lake off the board, look for the Generals to enlist the help of Farley at corner.
10. Wichita Outlaws Barry Battles, RB, Southern California
Simply put. The Outlaws need a running back. Battles may not be that big of a reach at this point. I expect he may outshine Crawford someday.
