TRIVIA BYTES - 2nd Annual Head Coaches Round-up
2009 is now in the bag and teams are reassessing their moves to enter a new age in the IFL, which starts with the conversion to FOF 2k7. The first of those team assessments is whether the current Head Coach is the right man for the job!

Reposting to reduce text on front page ...

Reader beware ... this story has used 2k4 ratings and not 2k7.

TRIVIA BYTES - 2nd Annual HEAD COACHES ROUND-UP
2009 is now in the bag and teams are reassessing their moves to enter a new age in the IFL, which starts with the conversion to FOF 2k7. The first of those team assessments is whether the current Head Coachi is the right man for the job!

Warhammer, in Harford, made a bold step last year when he stole T.J. Palmateer away from Salt Lake City for money that the Stallions would not give up. That single move seemed to be a stroke of genious as the Grizzlies marched to their first Imperial Bowl Crown that same year.

There are several coaches with expired contracts and some of them have similar credentials as Palmateer. It will be interesting to see where these prize commodities end up, especially with the track history of the Palmateer experince of the Grizzlies.

Here is our research on HEAD COACHING POSITIONS: Who is on the 'hot seat"?, and on Who will be a "hot commodities" in the upcoming days?

There are six vacancies and here's how the incumbents stack up. There are also two assistant coaches who are viable head coaching bait and one who did not coach in 2009. All are on our "watch list". TB gives highest consideration to those coaches that do not have an "average, or below" rating in any critieria.

WATCH LIST - THE TOP SHELF

        #1 C.J. Gunn - Pittsburgh.
        Age: 46
Observations: A young coach, a proven winner, great skills. Started at Hartford in 2003 and took them to the playoffs. Has been at Pitt for the last six season, with an overall HC record of 67-50, and four trips to the playoffs.
Prediction: Current salary is $3.90 M (2k7 asking price not available). Pittsburgh cannot afford to lose him. Other clubs will try to steal him away and will succeed if the Power mimic Salt Lake City's off season behavior of last year.

 #2 Freddie Cristal - Madison
        Age: 55
Observations: In his prime, great skills. Three years at California before leading the Madison Demons for the past three years, two of which were to the Conference Championship game and one trip to the Imperial Bowl.
Predictions: Current salary is $2.40 mil. Madison will not want to lose him ... doubling his salary will not get the job done!

        ------------------------------
        WATCH LIST - CALL BRAND

 #3 Britt Hatcher - Oakland
        Age: 69
Observations: A seasoned coach that deserves to the on the "TOP SHELF". Only his age detracts from his attractiveness to other teams outside of Oakland. History features four straight play off trips, two conference games and one Imperial Bowl appearance.
Prediction: Current salary is $5.710 mil. TB thinks he will resign with Oakland unless there is a team out there that thinks they can make a run at the Imperial Bowl next year or the following. There is also the strong possibliliy that 2k7 retires Coach Hatcher.

        -----------------------------------------
        WATCH LIST - GOOD STUFF

 #4 Jake Lentz - Lansing
        Age: 40
Observations: A rather nondescript career at Lansing. He has the skill set, but could be more hands on in the locker room.
Prediction: He is a keeper. Currently earning $2.73 mil. Lentz's age makes him extemely attractive. Lansing should think twice before trying to dick with his salary demands.

 #5 Grant Roberson - Boston
        Age: 46
Observations: A young offensive coordinator that has a skill set to bring it at the head coaching level. Has had prior head coaching experience with Reno. The only knock on Roberson is that he is known to be rather lackluster in the locker room.
Prediction: This guy will be swept away from Boston and given an opportunity somewhere else and he will get a hefty increase from his $2.4 M current salary.

        -----------------------------------
        WATCH LIST - THE OTHERS

        :?: #6 Ethan Vera - Murfreesboro
        Age: 60.
Observations:Good skill set; salary at $4.03 mil. Good lineage: Conference championship game as OC with Norfolk, Division championship with Alburquerque the following year, also as a OC; three developmental years with Murfreesboro at the helm.
Prediction: Murfreesboro could do better, but it could do alot worse too if they try the Hartford move from last year and do not succeed. An upgrade would definately put Murfreesboro in a better position in a tough division. In any case, Vera will end up somewhere.

        :?: #7 Jerry Armstong - Wichita
        Age: 60
Observations: Great skill set, but no offensive experience.
Prediction: An excellent match for a defensive based team. We expect that someone will give him a try.

        :?: #8 Zack Brown - Vancouver
        Age: 58
Observations: Outstanding strategist on offense and defense; other skills are average.
Prediction: Current salary at $5.0 mil. Likely to resign with Vancouver; however, it might be time for a new landsacape for Vancouver, especially at this price range.

        :?: #9 Reuben Allan - no team
        Age: 63
Observations: Lots of experience, cheap, tail end of career.
Prediction: Probably will sit out another season before retirement

          #7 Jerry Armstong - Wichita
          Age: 60
Observations: Great skill set, but no offensive experience.
Prediction: An excellent match for a defensive based team. We expect that someone will give him a try.

The Wichita front office has not commented on whether Coach Armstrong will be offered a contract extension. Rumor has it that he will be available on the market this offseason after a disappointing season in Wichita.

Among them are current HC Jake Lentz, CJ Gunn, and Freddie Cristal whom all are considered the top available HC's. Which way the Bulldogs go is anyone's guess.
:?: TB reports that all franchises have been keeping their head coaching plans close to the vest with the exception of Newark & Wichita.

Lawrence believes in consistency and to that end we'll be attempting to resign our own OC. I think his name is Bryant White or something.
