  • Phantoms win playoff opener!

    by Spark Wonup
    Lawrence Sun Times

The Lansing Ogres, fresh off an upset of the Stallions in Salt Lake, came to Broke As Fuck Field today looking to extend QB Scott Nelson's perfect 5-0 record against the Phantoms. Owner/GM Jester Blaze, publicly mindful of the possibility of Lansing knocking out the NFC's best regular season team in their first playoff game, gave me some pre-game dope on the subject:

"Lansing is a very solid football team all around. And what's scariest to me is the depth that they have. I'd bet there are 30 starter quality players on that team! And the way to beat a team like that is to try to play solid football yourself for 60 minutes. I hope we can do that."

True to form the teams were tied at 3 apiece after a first quarter that saw a blocked punt, and the Phantoms snagged a 1 point lead going into halftime, reduced from 7 via two FGs in the last 34 seconds.

Late in the 3rd quarter the Phantoms opened up a 12 point lead off of ROY hopeful Dana Glover's 104 yard KO return only to watch said lead fall back to 5 on the next play as Lionel Childers took the ensuing KO 95 yards the other way for the matching score. It was one wild consecutive set of plays, bringing back memories of last weeks 75 yards KO return turned 90 yard INT TD in the LAN/SLC game.

In the end the Phantoms managed to come away with a 12 point victory and now host Oakland for the NFC Championship game!

"We knew we weren't going to win in blowout fashion today," said Blaze after the game. "You gotta grind games like this out and I think we did that fairly well and ended up with the win. This was a great Lansing football team that could easily be playing in the NFC title game instead of us."

Dude you need to lay off the chronic. I didn't understand that last sentence at all.

hmnn... I understand it right now, but I did just toke my morning toke so you might be on to something.

What I was trying to say was it was tied 3-3 at the end of the 1st.
Then I had a 7 point lead near halftime but 2 Lansing Field Goals with under 35 seconds left in the half brought it back down to 1 going into the half.
