The Lawrence Phantoms clinched their first ever NFC East divisional crown today with a 42-15 shallacking of the California Heroes. Despite the best record in the division since the IFL began the Phantoms have always been edged out by one of the other three fierce rivals but that has now changed.
The Heroes have shown great strides this season and were holding the game close until midway through the 2nd quarter when the Phantoms, up 7-5, scored a TD and then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kick-off and scored another TD two plays later to go up 21-5 and as has been the case many times so far this season they never looked back.
The victory came at a high price though; Lawrence lost both it's starting DTs for a 6 week period, meaning they can only be counted on for the IFL Bowl assuming the Phantoms make it... a big assumption.
"These pussies will do anything to avoid playing Crespo," joked head coach Hunter Crawford referring to John Ortiz and Raymond Ellis after the game "Seriously, this is a set-back for us. If anything we'd rather them for the NFC contests when we need them. If we're lucky enough to make it to the bowl we'll be playing one of the AFC squads and might not even need them. :twisted:"
