  • 2010 Draft

When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of the IFL and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter*...of draft talk!

Is your team already without any hope of making the playoffs? Then it's time to look forward to the 2010 draft! This year's class promises to be an exciting one, with plenty of first round talent at the QB position. Here is Mel Kiper's early top 15 prospects after the 11th week of the college season:

      I'll take all of them.

I'm assuming we're continuing the importation (I think I just made a new word) of draft files from TCY.

Aye Carumba!! I thought we were going to be through with that after the switch. Can we at least start a new college file to synchronize the years/ages? I hate 25 & 27 year old rookies.

I thought they were synchronized, as in the TCY season is up to 2009 right now?

I love being able to see college-honors on the playercards!

I don't think age matters too much. I thought experience was a more important modifier. Atleast I think I remember reading or seeing that somewhere

I don't know how much it matter, but it definitely matters because if it isn't in sync enough players retire after one year. But I'm pretty sure TCY is being run in the same year as the IFL. Only some players are 25+, which is how it is IRL too. For example, a number of players from BYU enter the draft in their mid twenties because they assume a missionary position for a few years.

With the NFL-draft this weekend and my IFL-season going the way it's going, I'm really anxious to read about the college-prospects.

Any information coming is good information

I don't have evidence to back this up but it sure feels like TCY is behind FOF by at least a year as far as age goes. I remember the draft that Terrence Newman (Cowboys CB) was drafted at 25 he was considered "old" which was a reason a lot of teams didn't consider him a high 1st round pick.

This TCY season is in fact 2009. The average age of a top 100 draftee in late April of 2010 is 23.21 years (median 23.02). The average age of all potential draftees is 23.15 years (median 23.03). 23 is the age of a typical fifth year senior.

The oldest draftee is 30.17  year old Michigan State WR Chuck Cortez, currently the #12 ranked prospect in the country. The youngest is 19.48 year old Rutgers G Norm Fulcher, who should have stayed in school and is not projected to be drafted.

Less than 3% of the draft class will be 25 or older at draft time.

I was wondering if the way TCY progression works causes the better players to be older.

I like the sound of less than 3% being 25 or over, but not if those 3% are all in the 1st round.

                            Focus on:
12 Chuck Cortez SE Michigan State

Cortez was a star for Michigan State as a sophomore...in 2000. He then quit the team and focused on his dream: winning a gold medal in Olympic downhill skiing. He took home the bronze in the 2002 games, then reached a crossroads in his life. The choice was either continuing to train for his dream of winning a gold, or the more lucrative choice of entering the initial draft of the new Imperial Football League created in 2003.

He chose skiing, and trained for 4 more years for the 2006 Olympics in Turin. He finally achieved his dream: a gold medal! Cortez's charisma made him an instant star, and the resulting sponsorship money allowed him to continue training for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, to be held in February.

Earlier this year, Cortez announced his impending retirement from skiing following the Olympics, and shortly thereafter announced he was entering the 2010 IFL Amateur Draft. His obvious athleticism and surprisingly good private workouts have scouts drooling, but his 5-9 frame will keep him from becoming an elite wide receiver. He will, however, be an impact player for whichever team drafts him.
