  • There is excitement in New Jersey

You'd be hard pressed to find a time in NJ where there was more buzz about the Bulldogs franchise. The team seems to be finding their groove early in the season and are off to a fast start compiling 5 wins to only 1 defeat. The Bulldogs are winning games because of their strong running game and their steady QB play. The Bulldogs are leading the league in rushing yards, yards per game, and yards per carry. While this is not a huge surprise, the passing game stats may yield some surprises. The Bulldogs are 3rd in completion % and 4th in yards per attempt. Personally, [ifl]Ruben Sante[/ifl] has a QB rating over 100 and ranks 4th in the league in that category. Surprisingly the Bulldogs currently boast the leagues 6th highest scoring offense. For longtime Bulldog fans this season has been a dream.
"When you look at some of the people on our team, more so the offense, we have a lot of guys that the critics have written off." says GM Matt. " [ifl]Irwin Kao[/ifl] was a guy that was run out of Wichita. [ifl]Emmanuel Contois[/ifl] was never able to catch on to a team, and he's averaging over 6 ypc here in Newark. [ifl]Andrew Robey[/ifl] is too old to still be an effective WR, and he's averaging 17ypc and has 3 TDs. [ifl]Kraig Marasco[/ifl] has turned out to be the cool guy to rip on, and I think he's been a terrific and important part of our team. Our offensive line has been called average many times, but the guys work so well together that they compete at a very high level. [ifl]Don Croft[/ifl] was called out by the media earlier this year, and he's responded by hitting on 93% of his FG's. Often time's it is about player's fitting into the system. So far we've been lucky." Despite the confidence, Matt understands that the rest of the schedule will not be easy. "With our team playing at a high level right now, mostly offensively, we can't assume this level of play to be the expectation for the rest of the year. History shows us that we will go through tough times. When this happens, I hope that our defense and special teams and help out and get the job done. At the end of the day, we only care about wins. The more you get, the better team you are. It's as simple as that."

The Bulldogs travel across the country to face the Vancouver Killer Whales this Sunday. The Bulldogs are 0-2 lifetime against VKW. The team is in for a dogfight this weekend, and the people of Newark are hoping for some more positive results

With all due respect to the reigning NFC East champs the Phantoms remain un-impressed:

"Newark is riding the tide right now but is headed for a tidal wave that goes by the name of the Lawrence Phantoms. We've been run on at inopportune times this season, but like every year although it goes unnoticed, we intend to rise to the occasion and hold Crespo to human levels", said HC Hunter Crawford.

"I ain't afraid of a Mu'fucker" responded rookie RJ Kley when prompted about the Newark/Crespo lead in the NFC East.
