  • 2008 Season - Imperial Fan Club Weekly - Week 1

    WEEK 1

    Game of the Week

Salt Lake City (34) vs. Oakland (31)

Despite all the commotion about the Stallions trading away prized QB Nigel Booker in the off-season, it was the pieces of the puzzle that where added via the Booker trade that helped the Stallions to victory over the division rival Owls in week 1. Newly acquired Chris Chaplin threw for almost 400 yards, and new TE Daniel Rich exploded for 112 receiving yards. Add that to James Tart racking up 145 total yards and 3 TDs and you have a season opener victory for the Stallions in Oakland. Despite the loss, do not doubt the Owls team. They played a great game, and had they played any other team it would have been a victory for the Owls.

Hats off to a great game… What a way to start the season…

    Upset of the week

    Vancouver (33) over Reno (7)

With Reno favored by many to win the NFC West division in 2008, the Wolfpack started the season on a very rough note losing to division rival Vancouver at home. Vancouver came in on a mission and totally dominated Reno on both sides of the ball. Reno fell behind early and never recovered. The Whales managed to force 4 Wolfpack turnovers and chewed up almost 200 yards rushing on Reno’s defense. It was the turnovers in the end that cost the Wolfpack in this game, definitely going to be a lot of long hours in the film room this week.

    Stewie’s Thoughts (Top 10) – Week 1

    1. Its time for Texas to get a new Kicker.
Yeah I know its week 1 but missing a 19 yard chip shot that could have won the game is not acceptable.

    2. Chris Chaplin will flourish in Salt Lake.
This system of offense better fits his play, and with playmakers like James Tart and Daniel Rich he should prove that week 1 was not a fluke.

    3. Oakland is still the team to beat in the NFC West
Despite the loss, Oakland managed to play well with Salt Lake and scored 31 points on just 24 minutes with the ball. Beware week 1 is not any indication of the season to come.

    4. Iowa City is going to be super tough in the AFC this season
Be very afraid! This team is very balanced and features on of the toughest defenses in the league. They are the team to beat in the AFC.

    5. Charles Bell could be the missing piece in Madison.
Madison has been solid in the past, but having a legitimate runner in that backfield could help push Madison toward a NFC title.

    6. Mules would have beat St. Louis with Opie in the line up.
Talk about disappointing. Mules owned the Cardinals until the last series of the game. Only 8 more weeks and Opie will be back!! Maybe we will win a game by then.

    7. Houston wins the South.
They beat up on the Voodoo in week one. The Cardinals and Mules do not appear to be much of a challenge thus far. It will be up to Booker, he controls the team’s chances of winning their first division title in team history.

    8. I feel there is a possible changing of the guard in the NFC South
Texas is tougher then they appear, Tulsa dethroned the IFL champs in week 1, and Columbia is a BIG question mark. Could there be a new champion in the south for the first time since 2005?

    9. Columbia needs to look at rebuilding with Markel… NOW
JC may not be done in this league, but Columbia is not ready for the promise land. After getting beat by Texas (even though it was a tie), we feel that it is a good time for JC to move on and lead a team to a title. Markel is a great young prospect who could lead the team for many years to come.

    10. Week One ends with a few surprise wins
Vancouver and Tulsa walk away with big wins and prove that even though they are in tough divisions, they can play with the big boys.

When I was doing the AC North preview I had a hell of a time deciding who I liked more. The one given in the division was that Montreal would be at the back of the division. I thought Cleveland was going to matchup against IWC much better than they did.

Please do not trade him to a team that I have to face in the near future, mmkay. I already have to make up one loss on my schedule...

We appreciate the love here in Texas, and yes the kicker had a nice talking to after the game. Wide right, he gets paid to kick under pressure.
