  • Hartford Owner/GM Guarantees Win

HARTFORD, CT - Hartford Grizzlies GM John "Warhammer" Richert guaranteed an opening day win in Norfolk by his Grizzlies at this afternoon's press conference.

After answering questions about the various offseason moves made by the Grizzlies, Mr. Richert guaranteed a win, or "flaming monkeys would fly out of my ass." Early betting lines have the Vipers as 14 point favorites at home, but that line is expected to settle into the 5 point range by the time the game starts as many believe this to be an early season sucker bet.

We'll have coverage of the game and any incidents that may follow.

    2003 IFL AC East Runner-Up - Wildcard 10-6
    2004 IFL AC East Runner-UP - Wildcard - AC Runner-up 10-5-1
    2005 3rd Place AC East 6-10 2007 2nd Place AC East 8-8
    2006 3rd Place AC East 7-9 2008 2nd Place AC East 9-7
2009 1st Place AC East, Imperial Bowl Champions 13-3

I was expecting to lose and had a really funny thing I was going to do. But, since we won, you guys won't have to see that!

        Hartford Connecticut ... November 11, 2006.

The Norfolk Vipers arrived this afternnoon primed to take care of business in the second header of the Viper/Grizzlie ""put up or shut up" annual home/away series.

This year, there has been wind in the air that the three year strangle hold of the Vipers on the AFC East is about to come to an end. This strange notion is not too far fetched ever since Hartford layed down the gauntlet and shocked the football world with a 17-14 win over Norfolk on the first week of the season ... on Viper soil and on the day that the Vipers opened up their newly refurbished stadium that is now the largest stadium in the IFL.

"Changing of the guard, is that what you want to read in the paper on Monday morning! Changing of the guard, my ass!" Viper Coach Mooberry has been heard to repeat time after time at team practices this week.

Austin "Elmo" Karl, second year NT for the Vipers, has been the only player that the press has caught for a rare player comment. All of the other vets have maintained compliance on one of Coach Mooberry's "tight lease rules" and that is: the coaching staff, and that means Coach Mooberry, is the only one besides the GM who is allowed to talk to the media.

"This seems to be a pivotal game that the football world is watching in order to see if if the balance on the AFC East remains on course. We have an opportunity to 'bitch-slap' Hartford and put to rest this nonsense about a new kid on the block. I can't wait for Sunday. The coach has got us prepared. We have had a hard but good week of practice. Believe me when I say that we are ready to bring it," Elmo boasted.

A wet field is expected at game time which provides favorable conditions for turnovers. Both teams feature outstanding offensive and defensive fronts. The battle of the trenches will be a key factor for victory. Also, the play of special teams on the wet field may also be another measuring stick.

In any case, it will be a great matchup that features a tradition of pride for the perenial division champs and the unabashed cockiness of the wan-a-be conqueror.
