Got a chance to catch up with James "sweeeeet" Tart this morning via c-phone and he let me ask him some questions about the Stallions and their off-season moves thus far.
JS: James, you’ve been pretty quiet about the moves the Stallions have made this off-season. Would you like to comment on any of them?
JT: I’m happy that the OC was let go---I was never happy with his bitch-ass offense as it didn’t make use of all of our weapons---namely yours truly. We are a team that must run the football and we’ve not been able to do that like we should have these past 2 seasons. This year, the front office looks to have recognized this and decided to do something about it.
JS: What do you mean?
JT: Well Nigel [Booker] is no longer a guy that we will go to war with every Sunday. But I think we may be a better team with what we got in return for Deuce. We’ve not had a guy that could rush the passer since Gregorio was traded away; now we have a premier guy at RE and I think that’s what our D-line needed there—I mean our backs have run on them in every practice last two years—they needed some talent there. We've got some great picks and a QB who I think will surprise some people---I met with Chris this morning and he's got a chip on his shoulder. I like that in a guy. Don't sleep on that kid we just picked up from Dakato either---he's a solid young gun who I think will florish with what we do here. What I'd like to see the front office do is get me some big guys to run behind on the O-line soon so I can show C-money a little something.
JS: Crespo?
JT: Yeah, I’m a fan.
JS: Surprising to hear that
JT: Oh don’t get it twisted, I’m a competitor. I still think I’m the most complete back in the IFL. I block the best, I catch it better than any other back and I can pound the rock if you want to grind it out, I can break the long one, convert the short yardage, hell I bet I could pass the ball if Coach wanted me too [JT laughs and tells me to make sure I print that part]. I’m still the best in my mind but I like Crespo’s game---he’s a bruising back and I like to watch the youngster do what he does.
JS: Fair enough. So let’s get to the question that is most pressing from the fans. Do you think you’ll be the featured component of this offense now?
JT: I damn well better be (JT laughs). Coach Palmateer prefers to run the ball but with guys like Booker and Gomez on your team, you gotta be a passing team. I’ve not talked to Money about the move yet, but he’s a warrior and we man up no matter what the situation. But yeah, I want to be featured here---maybe these additions on defense will allow us to feature our ground game more.
JS: You’re getting up there in years but you’ve been very durable over your career---do you think the front office will take a RB with that first round pick this year?
JT: I can’t say how they will go man—all I can say is that I think we’re strong at running back and I know I have something left in the tank---Like I said, I’d like to see some big guys brought in up front so I can punish some people [JT smiles].
JS: Thanks JT
JT: Anytime Jimmy---wtf is Bobbi?
