Murfreesboro, TN - "It is my pleasure to announce that Murfreesboro has been awarded a team in the Imperial Football League." said Kobeck the owner/GM of the Murfreesboro Mules.

This is the first venture into football ownership for Kobeck.

Kobeck also stated "The Mules look forward to competing with the Clawz, Renegades, Cardinals, Toads, Voodoo, Fire, Snipe Hunters, Pirates, Phantoms, Killer Whales and Outlaws. This is just the beginning for the IFL and the Murfreesboro Mules are proud to be a part of this new enterprise."

After a winless preseason Mules GM Chris Kobeck was happy to announce that most roster decisions had been made and that "the Turk" would be visiting lockers friday/saturday in order to collect playbooks and team equiptment. Two Vanderbilt graduates will be prominant features in the Mule backfield. QB Manuel Willoughby and reserve FB Adam Pynter. Featured backs will be RB Henry Glasgow and FB Sheldon Mendez. Blue Chip TE Daniel Rich will be backed up by veteran Matthew Selby. Rich will be complimented as a starter by Blue Chip C Roscoe Bridges. Joining Bridges on the OL will be Larry Leatherwood and Charles Poteat. Punter Patrick Lewis had an excellent preseason, too excellent as he punted 29 times in 4 games, but if the offense had not committed 14 turnovers it would have approached 50!

Andrew Monroe and John Ash will anchor the DL at DT. LCB Milton Martin and SS Shad Rodruguez anchor an inexperienced defensive backfield and MLB Dennis Gallup highlites the LB corps.

GM Kobeck had this too say "The healthy, yet constant progress of Bridges and Rice was the primary focus of preseason, what with training camp being replaced with the dispersal draft and all. It was also nice too see so many insurance salesmen playing QB this summer."

Veteran QB Roy Hodgkins was cut today by the Mules. Hodgkins had previously been in the NFL for 8 seasons, but his long ball style did not fit into the Mules plans. Hodgkins said "If I was a mentor I would still have a job".

The Turk was also overheard strolling thru the Mule locker room ...

Guidry take your long pass preference and go home - YOU'RE CUT!
de Loayza you done bought too many vowles - YOU'RE CUT!
Demoss you fumbled - YOU'RE CUT!
Sanford you smell - YOU'RE CUT!
Harmon and Holland - CUT! & CUT!

first week upload confirmed - all is well

Murfreesboro – Jessie Lewis held his already scheduled post-game press conference today – here are the highlights.

Press: were the turnovers a factor in the loss on Sunday?

Jessie Lewis – The Mules fumbled the ball 5 freakin’ times and were picked off for a TD once. Yeah I’d say that turnovers were somewhat of a factor.

P – The Time of possession was close, how did the Mules manage that considering the Grizzlies reached the redzone 5 times and had 23 first downs?

JL – It is a mystery ain’t it.

P – The Grizzlies rushed for a combined 187 yards. Was the Mule Defense prepared for that type of attack?

JL – Well the Grizzlies achieved critical blocks on almost 50% of their rushing attempts. Any time a team is getting 15 stinking critical blocks in a game it is probably going to show up in the rushing stats. I was pleased with the defense ability to get off the field on 3rd down, unfortunately the Mules only got the Grizzlies into 3rd down 10 times all day. Yeah that’s right the Grizzlies got 20 first downs on first or second down.

P – Does this loss eliminate the Mules from the Playoffs?

JL - Playoffs? Don't talk about playoffs, Are you kidding me? Playoffs? I'm just hoping we can win a game.

Murfreesboro, TN – Mules reluctantly placed LCB Harrison Stowell on IR today. The 0-4 Mules had held the roster spot for Stowell in case his torn lateral knee ligament healed by the end of the season. With the Mules horrid start and Harrison’s slow recovery the Mule brain trust decided that the slot was best used with another HB.

HB Daniel DeMoss’s agent Lonnie Bailey was contacted about resigning with the Mules. Bailey said, “Daniel has no interest in playing for the Mules”. DeMoss fumbled in preseason prompting his release from the Mules. Mules Owner said “DeMoss could have got some playing time as the Mules are reassessing their entire backfield during the bye week. The Mules will look in another direction and wish Daniel luck with his IFL future.” Owner Kobeck was heard mumbling something about paper or plastic was he walked towards HC Jessie Lewis and OC William Keen.
