I also sat down with new Oakland GM Jeff to discuss the particulars
1. What were some of the biggest reasons you decided to move west?
This team is closer to competing right now and I think that's something that is enjoyable for just about any general manager. Also, there's a lot of backstory to this team. It's very prestigous.
2. Obviously you had some time to grow with the Fresno franchise. Who are some of the guys that you are going miss, and what was the vision that you had for the Chaos?
Ultimately, my vision was to bring a very professional and a very respectable football team together. I'll miss a number of guys, there's no doubt about that. I'll be following Bucky Beaver closely for the rest of his career. I still think that Reuben Caffrey has a chance to be something special and it's sad I won't be able to work with him anymore.
3. What are some of the key things that you see in Oakland that will help lead you to success?
Talent. There is no lack of talent on this squad as it is and that will make my job a heck of a lot easier. We've also got one of the top coaches in the league in Britt Hatcher. He's been very patient and has had to deal with a lot of adversity since taking the job in Oakland. I hope he's here as long as I am.
4. One of the upcoming issues with your new team is the pending
negotiaitions with start QB Gene Hamilton. With his contract expiring next offseason, are you looking to renegotiate this offseason or wait til his current contract expires before you step up to the table?
Upcoming is the key word there as it's really nothing that concerns me at this moment. I've talked to Gene and his focus is on playing football and making the playoffs and that's the way I like it.
5. This team has lost 3 straight games. Can this team make the charge
back to the playoffs?
This team can turn it around, there's no question about that. Right now everyone just wants to get back on the field and right the ship. There's no doubt in the players' minds. They believe they are a championship calibre team.
6. Any thoughts about the previous ownership group, your new C, or Gaston Lomelli?
Taken over for Jave won't be an easy task, but thanks to him it won't be too rough either. He poured his guts into this team for a number of years and it shows.
Gaston Lomeli is a guy who Jave really believed it and after I met with the young man I can see why. He's tough and very dedicated during practice. He's very good at making bigger guys look stupid. Of course, Gaston owes a lot of his success to that offensive line. They feed off of each other and that's what you like to see.
Thanks for your time
Thank you and keep up the good work, Vic
