In a decision that was widely expected years ago the Oakland Raiders have filed a lawsuit against their crosstown rival for what they are calling a "blatant use of their trademarked logo."
Said longtime Raiders Owner Al Davis about the Assassins' actions, "Any knucklehead can see what they've been up to. They just took our logo and blacked out the Oakland part."
The timing of the lawsuit is odd in that it has come forth just days after a change of ownership in the reknowned ImperialFL franchise. While former owner Jave could not be reached for comment, new owner Jeff made this statement to the press:
"I've been aware of the similarities between our franchises' logos for some time. At first I thought that the eye patch was on the opposite eye, but was then told by our lawyers that such an argument wouldn't fly anyways. That said, we will flop over like little girls and make the necessary changes in accordance to the demands of the lawsuit."
After Jeff made his appearance his assistant unveiled the teams new helmet. In our eyes it looks like the decal has been torn right off of their old helmet. Their new 35x35 logo is said to be a plain black box - how exciting. It is already widely believed that the franchise is going to make a nickname change after the 2007 season.
