  • Vermont Season Preview: Offense

With Virgil Sepulveda only getting better each year, and the most deadly WR couple in the league, Vermont is looking forward to the 2007-season like no other season before. The names of Max Brown and Larry Ostrowski make defensive coordinators around the league scramble for new plays trying to defend against the Vermont Air Attack, only to be beaten out on the ground by Cary Morris and David Sonnier, not to mention Sepulveda's own scrambling. Combined with Sammy Kayser as the fullback, Vermont's runners are not only dangerous on the ground. Kayser and Morris consistently get to see a passes come their way as well, adding to the potential methods of attack for Vermont.

The success of Morris and Sonnier can be largely attributed to an excellent offensive line for the Mountaineers, however. Jacob Pinder, the nine-year veteran at left guard, is one of the top rated blockers in the league and together with Jamel Turner on the right side, he gives the runners several holes to utilize getting downfield. Tackles William Million and Scott Daniels complete an offensive line that provide safety for Sepulveda to set up his receivers, as well as opening holes along the ground.

Accompanying the likes of Morris, Sonnier and Kayser, is arguably the best tight end in the league, Quentin Logan. Drafted 5th overall back in 2004, the four-year veteran is as complete a football player as they come. Earning almost 4 million per season, Logan's contract runs out in 2008, and might be up for a renewal later this year to keep his rights locked up for the forseeable future.

The final piece of the offensive core is an unexpected one. Picked up as a tertiary backup running back during free agency this year, Sammie Flannery has tore holes in the Exhibition defenses during the pre-season. Admittedly not a big deal, given it's the Exhibition and all, but with three potent running backs, two of the league's best WRs, a top notch Tight End and a great Fullback, Virgil Sepulveda looks set to run one of the best offenses in the league again this year.

This season might be your best chance for a while. You've got a lot of talented players with only 1 year left on their contracts.

I'll be happy if I can grab one win off you this season.

I'm painfully aware of that.. hence my attempt to trade the first rounder this year for one next year.. but the offers on the table weren't really to my liking.

You have a defensive portion coming out? I think your front seven is what is going to hurt you.
