1-01. Murfreesboro Mules- RB Scott Fortune, Florida State
    PLAYER REPORT
A great athlete with power and speed to burn but short on "Football" smarts. Needs to be molded into an IFL back.
Explosive power and speed will remind people at times of Gale Sayers but posses the football acumen of Ron Dayne.
Murfreesboro gains a back who can come right in and start. Will be a solid addition right away but could end up being a player that when looked back upon, failed to grow into the superstar Mules fans longed for.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 8.0
Can start right away and fill a team void. Will play well, just not like a #1 overall.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 7.0
Will flash greatness but many fans will wonder if the same numbers couldn't have been gotten by someone who else at a much cheaper cost.

    OVERALL RATING: 7.5
Picture more Herschel Walker or pre 2005 Tiki Barber instead of Bo Jackson and you won't be let down.

1-02. Boston Dragons- DE Raymond Webb, Georgia
    PLAYER REPORT
Terrifyic Mixture of raw power and speed, will cause havoc on opposing Tackles due to sheer athletiscm, needs to develop a head for the game to go along with his body. Has trouble reading blocking schemes but should be able to overcome it on athletic prowess alone against average linemen, but will suffer against the more talented linemen and coaches in the league. Will start opposite Blake Abram on Bostons line and should prove an immediate impact for the Dragons.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 7.0
Will struggle at times but should not be overmatched much.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 9.0
Should develop into a steadily above average overall Defensive End. Consistent Above average to Pro Bowl caliber numbers are not beyond expectation.

    OVERALL RATING: 8.0
Think Bruce Smith, just don't think it quite yet.

1-03. Wichita Outlaws- MLB Wes Martin, Michigan
    PLAYER REPORT
A physical beast who is big enough to engage a majority of the leagues interior linemen and fast enough to cover any back.
Has all the tools of the classic 3 pronged Middle Linebackers, ability to cover, tackle and pass rush.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 8.5
Steps right in to a position of great weakness for the Outlaws and should provide immediate skill and leadership to a young and burgeoning front 7.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 9.0
Flat out the kind of guy who can be the face of the Defense both on and off the field. A terrifying fixture in the center of the field that opposing offenses will have to gameplan around for years to come.

    OVERALL RATING: 8.75
Skillset of Brian Uhrlacher with the physical tools of Lavaar Arington. Yeah, that's not too scary.

1-04. Iowa City Snipe Hunters- DE Freddie Swift, NC State
    PLAYER REPORT
Unparraleled speed from the DE position, but will be overmatched by alot of Tackles against the run.
Not a complete player. Needs to develop finnese and footwork for the trenches, we're not saying he won't we just wonder why we should expect him to at this point.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 6.5
We arn't saying he doesn't do what he does well, We fully expect him to be a monster pass rusher, but we arn't sure he's an everydown kind of player, especially on a team with such a pourous run stopping line.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 6.5
If he reaches his potential he'll be a 10-15 sack a year player, he'll also be a liability on 66% of the plays from scrimmage. Reminds us alot of fellow Sniper Jay Gaden...who was taken 36 picks later than this in the 2004 draft.

    OVERALL RATING: 6.5
Tremendous situational player, we just dont think thats what you want with the 4th pick of the draft.
Squint and he'll remind you of Charles Haley, but maybe you should open your eyes and take a closer look.

1-05. Orlando Pirates- CB Duane Edwards, Notre Dame
    PLAYER REPORT
Combination of speed and strength dwarfs all other CB's in this years draft. Can cover anyone and is not afraid to come up on the line of scrimmage and engage anyone 1 on 1. Is raw but we don't see any reason why he won't be a terrifying vision in the secondary for opposing QB's for years to come.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 6.0
Joins 2 very solid CB's on Orlandos roster, should learn well from them but he needs to play right away and take his lumps. Which he likely will take at first.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 9.0
It's not often you come across such a well rounded, blanket cover man but here he is. Will play at the same high level no matter what scheme you use him in and has an eye for the ball that reminds us of Deion Sanders.

    OVERALL RATING: 7.5
When he's ready to explode, watch out. This kid is going to be something special.

1-06. Vancouver Killer Whales- C Shawn D'Arcy, Florida
    PLAYER REPORT
Big and Agile. Has a constant motor that doesn't wear down. Terrific motion blocker but will not get overmatched by anyone going head to head in the trenches. A terrific linemen who can probably play anywhere on the interior line.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 8.0
Will come in and replace the injured Harold Frey at Center or could be moved to Guard. Either way he's immediately the best player on Vancouvers interior line.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 8.0
Will serve as an anchor and put up solid numbers in whichever position he's asked. Just a very solid and durable Offensive Linemen who should serve as the centerpiece of Vancouvers interior line for the years to come.

    OVERALL RATING: 8.0
If Larry Allen was a Center, this would be him.

1-07. Portland Seals- WR Dominic Field, Florida State
    PLAYER REPORT
Undersized speedster who does not get knocked around as much as his size would indicate. Packs amazing power into his tiny frame and his speed doesn't suffer for it. That said, he will get pushed around by the bigger and better Secondarys in the league at times, other times he will fly right by them.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 8.0
Joins an underwhelming Portland WR Corps and should pay immediate dividends.
Is ready to step in and be a factor right now but his with anyone of his size, long term durability is a question mark.
The wide open style of the NFC West will benefit him greatly.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 7.0
Not an elite receiver but a very solid, dependable and fast #1 option that any team would love to have. Very strong but relying on that may be a problem. Will be very good as long as his body holds up.

    OVERALL RATING: 7.5
Imagine if Chris T. Jones hadn't gotten hurt. Ok, now remember that he did.

1-08. Houston Renegades- WR Bryant Beckner, LSU
    PLAYER REPORT
Terrificly well rounded WR. Tall and thin, but durable. Soft. Has the pyshical skills to be a great possesion receiver but not the will. On the other hand he can do everything very well. Excellent speed combined with great awareness, of course when he's aware he's going to be hit he often shuts down.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 6.5
Should step right in and be Houstons #1 receiver, and be competant in the role. Expect growing pains though as he has all the skills but needs time to flush out his game at this level. Having Gary Silverman to learn from is a bonus that should serve him well.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 8.0
In terms of overall ability and skill he may end up being the best Receiver in this class. Will provide the perfect target Jerry St. Claire for years to come.

    OVERALL RATING: 7.25
Imagine if Alvin Harper was good enough to be a #1 Wide Receiver.

1-09. Madison Demons- CB Preston Benson, USC
    PLAYER REPORT
Very fast and very smart but also very light. Needs to have the upper hand off the line of scrimmage to defend 1 on 1.
Better served in a zone scheme where he can work the play instead of the player. Amazing return skills.
Almost corelates better to play the Safety position where reads are more important.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 7.5
Probably the best CB on Madisons roster right now and definetly the best CB on Madisons roster after he has a year in.
Used correctly he could be an impact player in the secondary right off of the bat.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 8.5
Dont expect him to cover Kurt Bice 1 on 1, but if you drafted him expecting that then you're in trouble already.
Work around what his skills are and you will have an absolute monster in the secondary regardless of where he plays.
Will also flourish returning kicks, expect big things from this kid.

    OVERALL RATING: 8.0
Has a big job as the centerpiece of Madisons rebuilding secondary but if anyone can handle it, he can.
Not only is he a tremendous play in and of himself, but he can make the players around him better.

1-10. Reno Wolfpack- CB Wayne Rose, Tennessee
    PLAYER REPORT
Tall and thin with good speed and uses his frame as about as well as anyone who's ever played the postion.
Make receivers work on every play is very hard to beat 1 on 1 wether it's a crossing pattern or a deep route.
Surprisingly good tackler but lacks big play ability. The very definition of workmanlike.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 6.0
Joins an already steady if unspectacular Reno secondary. Will need to play to develop and unless things change he may not see the playing time to make a big impact right away.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 8.0
Given time to develop and grow into his role he could be a #1 CB no doubt. A steady player who will probably earn more respect from the players on the field than the broadcasters on Sportscenter.

    OVERALL RATING: 7.0
Let Gene Hamilton throw the interceptions. Let this kid shut down Kurt Bice.

1-11. Lansing Ogres- WR Sherman Jarvis, Georgia
    PLAYER REPORT
Big, decent hands, good explosion off the ball but has trouble generating post possesion distance due to timidity.
Plays alot smaller than he is which is a concern. Does not like to get hit.
Give him an inch however and he will make you pay. Needs to be played tight and hard.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 7.0
Has the skillset and ability to step in and play right away but Lansing is not hurting, per se, for WR talent.
Will produce in the time he's given, a starting job right away would probably be the best thing for him and the team.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 7.0
Yes, he's very good at what he does, but he's not unstoppable and he's not a game changer.
Will produce at a good level, but he's not an elite WR, and given a viable option is probably not even a #1 WR.

    OVERALL RATING: 7.0
Az Hakims talent in Keyshawn Johnsons body. Sounds alot better than it is.

1-12. Albaquerque Matadors- DE Burt Dukes, Texas
    PLAYER REPORT
Strong and straight ahead. Very hard to move off the line on run plays and very hard to defend against when backpeddling.
Lumbers. Has an area of domination, but it isnt that big, will not chase and will not motor.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 7.0
Very dependant on what Albaquerque does with him. They already have a very solid line but he can contribute at a good level right now if asked.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 8.0
He can be gameplanned against by being avoided, but then he's already won the battle hasn't he?
If he can add a touch of speed or quickness to his feet he will be a real monster, if not he still be a brickwall on the right side of the D-Line.

    OVERALL RATING: 7.5
The Ted Washington of Defensive Ends, which has it's good points and it's bad points.

1-13. Texas HellRiders- CB Howie Causey, Bringham Young
    PLAYER REPORT
Very raw, but with a tremendous upside. There isn't much we don't project this kid as not being able to do.
Small but very strong for his size with very good feet and athletic ability. Smart. Needs time to develop.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 5.0
Joins a Texas secondary that is already good, needs to play and needs to develop. Is surrounded by talent which will help him, but nothing helps more than actualy doing it on the field but at the same time, exepect some struggles early.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 9.0
When he reaches his potential and learns to play at this level he will be a stud, we have no doubt.
Has a keen awareness to go along with his physical tools that isn't often seen.

    OVERALL RATING: 7.0
Let him learn by taking his lumps on the field. This is aint no Shawn Bradley.

1-14. West Virginia Beasts- RB Nicky Kersey, Nebraska
    PLAYER REPORT
Powerfull combination of strentgh and speed. On the tall side for a Running Back which gives him a little trouble lowering his base when in the trenches but has incredibly good feet and vision and is an absolute speed demon.
Very good reciever as well. Does have trouble holding onto the ball, especially when trying to power for the extra yard.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 8.5
Will be the starting RB for West Virginia and will be a force. Will likely be the focal point of the offense and should produce top tier stats, if not overused. Will suffer from an absolute derth of talent around him. Needs to be protected.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 9.0
The only drawback we see to this kid is the team around him. If he gets help he will be a superstar on a winning team.
If he doesn't he will be a stat machine that suffers thru ambiguity.

    OVERALL RATING: 8.75
    Reminds us of Jaques Crosby.

1-15. Reno Wolfpack- ILB Dexter Gregg, Oregon State
    PLAYER REPORT
Strong with good feet but not real quick. Can play up and stop the run with ease. Needs to engage his opponent in the open field when in coverage, can be outrun if distance is given to the back. Strong enough to engage Guards heads up on the run stop or pass rush and has solid enough footwork and agility to finese them from time to time.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 7.5
Will likely get the opportunity to start right away and should be effective. Combines the overall talents of Renos current ILB's into 1 frame. Has 2 solid LB's on the outside to lead him along and not leave him high and dry when overmatched.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 8.5
Not as fast as your normal ILB but he compensates by very rarely letting opposing backs get any distance, plays his zone on the field about as well as anyone. Expect to have an above average producer at MLB for a good many years with this kid.

    OVERALL RATING: 8.0
Expect 100+ tackles, 5-8 sacks and 2-3 picks per year.

1-16. Dakota Spirt- CB Tommy Johnson, USC
    PLAYER REPORT
Tall, lanky, and not amazingly fast, but uses his frame very well. Uses his feet very well.
Excellent 1 on 1 cover man who allows very little seperation. Not a hard hitter but engages his receiver from the moment the ball is snapped. Great return man, can be a gamebreaker.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 7.5
Joins a lacking Dakota CB unit and should step right in and be a starter and contributor.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 8.5
Will be leaned on, and should grow from, being relied on to be the base of Dakotas pass defense in a pass happy conference.
We fully expect him to live up to his end of the deal in that regard.

    OVERALL RATING: 8.0
He'll need help across from him, but this is a first big step in Dakotas ascent to the top tier of the NFC.

1-17. Fresno- DT Casey Jameson, Notre Dame
    PLAYER REPORT
Packs alot of size into his frame, very hard to move. Has excellent feet but often suffers when moving from a shift in weight but still can overtake Offensive Linemen in a variety of ways. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, very much a primal player. Has an excellent motor and rarely takes a play off.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 7.0
Will likely start alongside veteran Greg Collins and that will help him immensley. Has the skills to hold his own against the weaker Guards in the league but don't be dismayed if he gets schooled now and again, he'll keep coming.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 8.5
A baby bull in the middle of the line who will force offense to the outsides if smart, and stop them dead if they're not.

    OVERALL RATING: 7.75
Jerome Brown light, which isn't too shabby.

1-18. Portland Seals- WLB Andre Munoz, NC State
    PLAYER REPORT
Very strong and hard hitting. Excellent run defender and zone defender, plays his area of the field to perfection.
Will not embaress himself when defending man to man and can handle it quite competantly against all but the fastest backs in the league. Not an adept pass rusher, is infinitly better when the play comes to him. Very smart and incredibly durable.

    REPORT CARD
    IMMEDIATE IMPACT: 8.5
Expect a move to SLB where the Seals are suffering, and expect immediate dividends.
Bookended with Mark Segura he should provide a jolt to a very poor and untalented Seals defense.

    LONG TERM IMPACT: 8.0
Whenever you have a player that opposing teams don't wont to be go near you have an advantage, Munoz is that kind of player.
His shortcomings do need to be addressed by putting a better team around him however.

    OVERALL RATING: 8.25
Will put up great stats right now, will be useless unless he gets some help.

Ditto. In fact, I like all the press reports in this league so far. I still don't know enough about the history of all the teams and whatnot, but there's a lot of good writeups around.

That is the biggest scandal in league history. The Grizzlies only loss to the Lynx...

I still think it is revenge for the fate of Theron Galicia (that was ANC's stud QB that was forced into retirement due to the Grizzlies pass rush).

Here's another one a bit dated about rivalries...

          Very cool. Thanks.

Did you actually get the in-game food poisoning injuries?

Got that once in SP. During playoffs. What a riot. I love this game.

Yes, that year I got food poisoning right after we beat archrival West Virginia in the divisional round of the playoffs. We had already lost our starting RB, MLB, and top CB for the year previously. Our entire backfield except for Dostie and Mueller was out, and we lost several starters on defense. Still we only lost by one score so we did well, still frustrating that it is our only loss to Anchorage.

Also, any bad blood between West Virginia and Hartford dates back to this time when both were arguably the best teams in the AC during the year. Hartford went from the #1 seed in the playoffs to the #5 team when Gerald Sanders led the Beasts to a last second TD to give them the win over Norfolk in the final game of the season.

                        Bump for players 7-18.

ESPN would also like to take this space to note that ratings are cumulative analysis of both the player and the team and the position they were taken. While ratings are fun little pigeonhole to provide a quick benchmark, our forte is analysis.

ESPN would also like to take this time to thank the IFL for allowing all access to the leagues cheerleader tryouts for our new network, ESPN Spice.
