Despite the fact the salary cap is starting to press down in on the Assassin managment, the team is determined to keep the core of the team intact for a few more years. Today, the team resigned fullback Matthew Myers and runningback Gaston Lomeli to long term contracts, assuring them of at least 5 more years in the silver and black.
Fullback Myers was signed to a 5 year, 15 million dollar deal, while Lomeli was resigned at 4 years, 7 million dollars.
With Bice signing a 70 million dollar deal early this week, and Hamiltons contract due in 2 more seasons, the fans in the bay area are starting to wonder...........where is this money going to come from?
"We have a few ideas we are working on that will insure the best players remain. The obvious is, not everyone is going to want to stay and play for less the their free agent value, and we will fully support any player that steps away for more money. We will work around the clock for those who do stay, and see they are compensated to the fullest."
In a odd twist, long time safty, Vance Nolan was resigned as well, but it's been rumored that he is involved in a trade with Fresno for strong safty Joe Sims.
There has awalys been bad blood between former Fire, and current Fresno owner Sovereignstar and Jave since the leagues inceptation in 04'. Any agreement of trade between the two would be unusual and we will continue to track down this rumor.
This offseason is full of surpises, yet the team returning, nearly intact for the 07' season is the best news the fans of Oakland could have! More from the bay area tommorow as another day of free agency heats up!
