Houston - In a season that is already hurt by the fact that Jerry Stclair is not expected to be back until near the end of the season, the Renegades have been busy making a lot of moves this off-season to beef up other areas, hoping to remain competitive until his return.
Shortly after the Cards traded Little Rock for talented receiver Olin Holst, the Renegades countered by trading for a cornerback from the same team, Alphonse Goodman. Goodman spent the last two seasons in Little Rock, and no doubt has some tips to share about covering Holst, which he's already excited to share with Garfield Rhodes who expects to get that large task. In an interview today, he expressed excitement about seeing his former teammate two times a year. "Holst is a good guy and a great player. He's fun to be around, and he's just amazing to watch in practice. I have nothing but respect for him" When asked if he knew anything about him, Goodman simply replied with a smile "Yea, I know a few things"
Later on in the evening, a blockbuster was pulled off in a trade with divisional rival Murfreesboro. The Renegades sent their 1st and 3rd round picks in the 2009 draft in exchange for 320 pound defensive tackle John Ash, who was a 2nd team All-American in 2006 and still has a lot of fire left in him. We were unable to get any comments from him, but it's rumored he was also very excited about the trade.
We expect more trades in the future as the Renegades still have to find a QB, and someone he can throw the ball to, but this should be a very interesting team defensively in 2007
