  • Oakland preps for 07, acquires MLB Gallup

    Oakland Press, Oakland, Ca

    Now that the rollercoaster ride of the 06 season is over, the Assassin managment is busy preparing for a return to the IFL bowl. High on the list of priorities is the defense, which was less then stellar during 06, forcing the offense to put up staggering numbers, which they did quite regularly.

    While more then a few of the league scouts rated the defense tackles something that could see improvment in 07, the Oakland coaching staff seem quite happy with LDT Everett Brazinski, and RDT Gary Salvador. Oakland GM Jave comments;
    " There not numbers guys, ya know, the players who put up the staggering tackles and sacks, there role players and damn good at it! They show up, week in and week out, and consistently give 100%, every single play. They don't ask for huge paychecks, they don't ask for awards or headlines in the paper, they just get it done".

    It turns out, the area most in need of improvement was the linebacking corps. What started out as the teams strength 3 years ago, has been a huge dissapointment with the injuries and consistent need to play most of them out of position. This was a priority this offseason.
    And it didn't take long for the Assassin's to address. While not making huge sweeping changes every year, Oakland GM Jave has a reputation for making ONE, very important acquisition a year, and this year was no exceptation.

    It gets tougher every year to get valuable players who can contribute, so when Jave saw middle linebacker Dennis Gallup available, he wasted no time in contacting Murfreesboro GM Kobeck to bring the talented linebacker to Oakland. In true Assassin fashion, the deal was done and sealed in less then 3 hours, sending long time WLB Brian Minard, plus next years first round pick, to the Mules, and bringing Oaklands first true MLB to the bay area. We had a chance to get Javes reaction;
    "This could turn out the be the best trade we have made yet. Some will say we overpaid, but they would not be doing their homework. By bringing in Gallup, this allows us to move Ken 'Tank' Allmon, back to his natural position of WLB, and have a true run stuffing MLB in Gallup manning the middle of the field. Our SLB Burl Nickels has lost a step, but he is still strong if he is able to play in his natural position. This was a move I believe will have a huge impact on the field."

    Knowing Jave, there is more in store for the team this year. From the bay area, this is Oakland Press.

        I don't remember Gallup being injured, but those three games he did not start indicate that he was.

        Obviously not pleased to lose a talent like Gallup, but the move does help with the CAP situation and clears the way for Smith at MLB.

        unsure what Minards addition will do but I can gurantee a restructure or cut - lol

          'Tank' won't be on the field as much if he is going back to the Will. You ok with that Jave? 'Tank' is a good player, seems like you would want him on the field as much as possible. Just asking :P

              Yea, when I bumped the post reminding me of who is on the field when, that occured to me. I did a test to see what a position change would require and..............OUCH. Nevermind that idea. Looks like he will just play out of position again this year.

              Yea, when I saw that I jumped all over it! He is a perfect fit for this team and I was psyched to be able to acquire him.
