Here are the yardage results for each defensive formation, defensive coverage, and defensive call. The formatting is off here, but if you want to look at it in Excel just copy and paste it.

Former Houston coach Dominic Hamrahi was fired after 2 dissapointing seasons amid allegations that he was not using RB Wilford Timmerman as much as he should. Here is a chart of the percentage of rushes of the top rated RB's in the league as compared to their backup. (only RB's that started 16 games)
        Code:
        		Carries	Backup	%
        Shutz 347	79	81.5%
        Webb 356	90	79.8%
        Rodrigez	340	116	74.6%
        Crosby 288	105	73.3%
        Timmerman	291	115	71.7%
        Tart 292	123	70.4%
        Connell	324	153	67.9%
Timmerman's carries were below the average but not by very much. The game that Timmerman rushed 6 times, St.Clair passed the ball 47 times. The solution to Timmerman's low carries may be to run the ball more.

FYI, the biggest reason was the penalties, and his discipline rating dropped so it was probably going to be more of the same this season.

Also, regarding the 6 carry game, and many of his low carry games, there is little I can do when I set the gameplan to run a certain % in certain situations, and the coach calls passing plays.

What bothered me about teh RB situation was on a game by game basis. Some games it was perfect, other games questionable. Using 71.7% as the benchmark, I looked at the games under that amount..

            Game 2 - 52% (L 17-20)
            Game 4 - 53% (W 27-7)
            Game 8 - 70% (W 23-13)
            Game 9 - 48% (L 9-27)
            Game 10 - 32% (L 9-34) *fake punt from own 45 on 4th and 14*
            Game 11 - 59% (L 16-19)
            Game 12 - 70% (W 27-16)
            Game 14 - 50% (L 17-20)
            Game 15 - 65% (W 27-17)
            Game 16 - 47% (L 6-7)

So in 10 out of 16 games we were under that 71% mark, and in only 4 games were we over the 71% mark

            Game 1 - 72% (W 20-16)
            Game 5 - 88% (L 13-25)
            Game 6 - 78% (W 15-9)
            Game 7 - 76% (L 23-24)

Two games were at the 71% mark

            Game 3 - 71% (L 13-26)
            Game 13 - 71% (L 14-21)

Just too inconsistent for me. 1/2 of my over 71% games were wins.

            Solution? Run more?

I had 5 games where I ran over 50% of the time...

            Game 4 - 55% run - 53% timmerman
            Game 11 - 62% run - 59% timmerman
            Game 12 - 59% run - 70% timmerman
            Game 15 - 61% run - 65% timmerman
            Game 16 - 69% run - 47% timmerman

So running the ball more didn't get Timmerman more carries. The games were he got 75% or more of the carries, the overall run % of each game was (31%, 46%, 46%).

Overall, I see no consistent pattern there. Run more? Timmerman gets less carries. Run less? he gets low carries. My best bet was running around 40%-49% of my plays, then he gets the benchmark of carries (roughly 70-71% ish)

The 71% value was just comparing the starter to the backup RB, not the starter to all runs by the team. The reason was to keep QB scrambles, FB runs, reverses, etc, from influencing the results. Timmerman had more than 71% in half the games, and less than 71% in half the games.

Well, as pointed out, simply running more didn't guarantee him more carries. Only once out of the games I ran more than passed did Timmerman pass the 70% mark in carries. Was it because I won? Well 3 games later I win by a similar score, ran more, and Timmerman didn't even crack 70%.

I know all games are different, but watching every single one, I saw extremely questionable decisions that don't just show up in boxscores. A backup running back can get 5 carries to the main's 25, but if those 5 came early in the game in random situations which killed scoring drives, that hurts later in the game. There have been a few times my backup has opened a half, or opened a qtr with multiple carries in a row, all in tight games.

I dont know how smart the AI is programmed by Jim. I have my doubts that he really understands football all that well. But consider this: Some teams go by possessions when using the b/u RB. So the starter gets 2 or 3 possessions and then the b/u gets one etc. That could account for some of the crazy shit your talking about. I doubt that the AI looks at it like that though.

It could just be the blind squirrel finding a nut.

I'm also not sure if the AI is smart enough to determine when drive killing time is. I know that Daughterty used to come in near the end of drives and fumble inside the red zone, which is why I drafted Long. Maybe it's a genius move: if you have to decide when to give a RB carries, could make sense to give your RB that can break a long one at any time more carries further from the goalline.

I tried to paste the yardage results for defensive formations into excel, but it didn't work. Paste special didn't work either. Is there a certain way to do it?

                      Also, what are the figures?

pass att, yard, avg, run att, yard, avg?

                      Thanks!
