Current record: 3-4 (3rd AC East)
    Streak: 3 wins
    Upcoming Week: BYE

    Offense:

The recent turnaround by the Dragons can be partially attributed to the consistent play of QB Reuben "Hot Sauce Picante" Sante. He has gone 65/88 (74%) for 592 yds with 2 TD's and 2 INT's. The 3rd year man out of Virginia has taken every snap for Boston this season. His main target this season has been Josh Sullivan who was selected #6 overall this year. The rookie is averaging over 10 ypc, but he leads the team with 4 drop passes. Brian Christie leads the team with 20 receptions, but he has missed the past two games with torn knee cartilage and will likely be out until week 12 or 13.

On the ground, the Dragons have been giving the load to Tory Wigfall. He is in his 6th season out of Peru St. (???) He has gained 513 yds this season and he is looking to reach the 1000 yd. mark for the 3rd consecutive season.

    Defense:

The other reason for the Dragons recent turnaround is the play of the defense. The unit has only allowed 37 pts. the past 3 games. ILB's Virgil McIver and Andrew Hulse lead the way with 49 tackles apiece and always seem to be in on the action. Weston Woodring has been putting pressure on opposing QB's, but has been unable to accumulate the sack totals he would like.

The secondary looks to be turning the corner behind 2nd year CB Willie Ames. He has 3 INT's on the year to go along with 4 pass defensed. SS Billy McBride has matched his career high already with 3 picks so far. The Dragons also got good news this week that Larry Morehead will be able to return to the lineup against St. Louis after missing 3 weeks with a strained deltoid muscle.

    Special Teams:

Punter Jason Oaks is having an outstanding year. He has 20 punts inside the twenty in only 37 tries. I will take that all the time. Carter Garland hasn't been too bad either as he is 13/14 in FGA.

Peru State is in Nebraska, I took a class thru them when I was in the Air Force. Until now I was unaware that they had a football team. Wonder what their nickname is? Don't care enough to look it up.

Boston is doing exactly what I thought they would do this year. Start out slow, but get it going towards the middle of the season.

One thing though, you didn't listen to me, you're supposed to LOSE to Hartford!

Current record: 4-9 (4th AC East)
                  Streak: 2L
                  Upcoming Week: @Norfolk

                  Recent Action:

In the past 6 weeks we have gone 1-5 losing to playoff contenders: Norfolk, Albuquerque, West Virginia, St. Louis and Pittsburgh. Our defense played well holding our opponents to 17 pts. or less in 4 of those games.

                  Offense:

Our offense continues to struggle. We are only averaging 13.9 ppg which is the 2nd lowest total in the league. QB Rueben Sante has not been able to put solid consecutive outings together. In his last two games he has thrown for 0 TD's and 6 INT's. RB Tory Wigfall finally had a good outing this past weekend against Pittsburgh where he averaged 4.4 ypc. Wigfall has 828 yds. this season and has 3 games left to hit 1000 yds. for the 3rd time in his career. 1st Rd. pick, Josh Sullivan has caught 13 of his 34 balls in the past 4 weeks. He has totalled 423 yds. this season and has 2 TD's. However, he has dropped 6 balls and that has Sante second guessing himself sometimes and looking for another option.

                  Defense:

On the defensive side of the ball, we have played well. We have been able to stay in most of our games and have given Sante opportunities to win games. ILB Virgil McIver is having a career year as he leads the league in tackles with 112. The 9th year player out of Idaho looks to be a lock for the All-Pro team. 2nd year players OLB Jonathan St. Louis and CB Willie Ames have had very solid seasons as well and have developed nicely to this point. St. Louis leads the team with 6.5 sacks and Ames leads the Dragons with 4 interceptions.

                  Special Teams:

K Carter Garland has been very consistent as he has hit 17/18 FG's. P Jason Oaks was having a fine year before tearing his ACL. He had 30 punts downed inside the 20 through ten games. That total is still good for 4th in the league despite missing the last 3 games.

I just don't know about Sante anymore. I am really interested to see what happens with him over the next two seasons. He has had a lot of patience show him over the last two, but the pressure to produce is coming I think. He has some good targets....

I am almost getting a picture of Mike Vick in my head when I think of Sante, just not as good.

                      2006 Regular Season Recap

The 2006 season has come to an end and the Boston Dragons finished with a 4-12 record which was good for last in the AC East.

This season was a frustrating one to say the least and here are some key player recaps:

                      - Young (QB) Rueben Sante continued to fail under the pressure of being a starting QB in the IFL. He finished the year with a QB rating of 62.2 and 21 INT's. These type of numbers do not cut it in the league and he will need to inprove drastically next season if he wants to stay in Boston.

                      - (RB) Tory Wigfall didn't do much better. Although he gained over 1000 yds. for the 3rd season in a row he only averaged 3.68 YPC. His backup gained 4.71 YPC on 90 carries.

                      - (FB) Karl Santana led the team with 49 receptions. Sante continually threw the ball underneath even though the coaching staff implored him to look downfield. Santana also made 35.5% of his blocks and we look for him to play an important role next season as well.

                      - 1st Rd. pick (WR) Josh Sullivan needs to find a way to become the go-to man on this team. He managed 39 receptions while being constantly double teamed. He did not manage to keep the confidence of his QB throughout the season as he dropped 6 balls.

                      - (ILB) Virgil McIlver had an outstanding season as he led the IFL with 131 tackles and was nominated for Defensive Player of the Year.

                      - 2nd year man, (OLB) Jonathan St. Louis, led the team with 7.5 sacks. He also managed 6 pass defensed. I expect him to explode next year.

                      - (DE) Weston Woodring was a disappointment. He came into the year following a 2005 season where he compiled 6 sacks, 13 QB hurries and knocked down 10 passes. However, in 2006 he managed only 4 sacks and 12 hurries. 2007 will be a contract year and we hope he plays like it.

                      - (CB) Willie Ames continued to develop into a "shut down" corner in his 2nd season. He led the team with 5 INT's and he had 9 PD's.

Going into the 2007 season, Boston does have a couple of things to look forward to. We have the #2 overall pick in the draft which should produce a stud player in a position of need.

Club ownership has also unveiled the new logo and helmet that the Boston Dragons will be using next season. "We did not get commissioner approval yet, but we don't think our request will be denied", said GM David Gonzalez in a recent press conference.

                      New helmet design:

                        Boston GM snubbed...

Boston GM, David Gonzalez, apparently snubbed in negotiations this past week. Rumors are surrounding the team that Gonzalez was trying to find a replacement for current head coach, Sammy Harvey and his defensive coordinator, Walt Ramsey.

Sources close to the team say that Boston was looking to hire former Fresno head coach, Freddie Cristal to lead the team in 2007.
