In what has become the norm in the Oakland era, the Assassins have pulled off yet another, blockbuster trade. In the same shocking fashion he was acquired, Phenom RB Wesley Connell has been traded to division rival, Vancouver for budding LG Chad Jerome, and veteran LDE Lance Delano.
This could potientally become one of the strongest defensive lines in the league. With the acquisition yesterday of stud RDE Richard Mitchell, and the resigning of DE Derek Nelson, who, with this trade, looks to move inside to DT, what was once a glaring weakness, is now a huge strength adding LDE Lance Delano.
So what happened with Connell? Clearly, he still has the chance to be one of the strongest runners in this league, yet was virtually unused in Oakland. We spoke with general manager Jave after the Delano trade was announced;
"Well, let me start by saying that we will miss Connell. His unselfishness and dedication to the game was unmatched, however, at the time he was with our team, our holes in the offensive line, and our trade for Bice, all but forced us to redesign the gameplan to focus more on the pass, and we never had the opportunity to properly utilize him. With this trade, we both get what we want. Connell goes to a team that desperatally needs him, and we recieve the offensive and defensive line help we so desperatly need. This was good for all involved."
It's once again a new era in Oakland, and cannot wait to see this team on the field.
