WILD CARD MAYHEM: DIVISION CHAMPS FALL AS WILDCARD ROUND DELIVERS SHOOTOUTS AND SHOCKERS

    NORFOLK —

The Norfolk Fleet might be sitting on the couch evaluating draft boards, but Post Season football kicked off with pure, unadulterated chaos across the league. Wild Card weekend wasted no time setting fire to brackets everywhere, highlighted by high-octane shootouts, second-half collapses, and the sudden elimination of two division champions in West Virginia and Texas.

From 67-point barnburners to suffocating defensive clinics, the opening round proved that regular-season records mean absolutely nothing once the tournament begins.

    Wild Card Weekend Recaps

Murfreesboro Mules 40, Alaska Polar Bears 27: Defense was entirely optional in a frantic matchup featuring 67 total points and over 900 yards of combined offense. Alaska carried a slim 1-point lead into the locker room at halftime, but couldn't contain Murfreesboro's firepower down the stretch.

Player of the Game: QB Gardner (Murfreesboro) – 367 passing yards, 4 TDs.

Calgary Cyclones 38, Texas Bulldogs 17: Tied at the half, the Cyclones completely slammed the door over the final 30 minutes, shutting out the division-champion Bulldogs the rest of the way.

Player of the Game: Cyclones Defense – 2nd-half shutout, 4 sacks, 2 INTs.

Columbia Chicharones 33, West Virginia Beast 27: In a fierce AC East rivalry, Columbia pulled off the shocker of the weekend. West Virginia had swept the regular season series by a combined score of 52-29, but Columbia hit a clutch late field goal and leaned on a game-ending takeaway to dethrone the Beast.

Player of the Game: Columbia Defense – 4 INTs, 1 defensive TD, and the game-sealing pick.

Horsetooth Ogres 42, Georgia Generals 18: A wire-to-wire rout. Horsetooth’s offensive machine fired on every cylinder, burying Georgia early and never looking back.

Player of the Game: QB Ingram (Horsetooth) – 337 passing yards, 4 TDs.

    Semi-Final Round Matchups On Deck
    • Calgary Cyclones at Vancouver (Division Rivalry): Calgary travels to Vancouver for a high-stakes divisional rematch with a spot in the conference title game on the line.
    • Columbia Chicharones at Las Vegas: Fresh off shocking West Virginia, Columbia gets the ultimate test against the league’s top overall seed in the desert.
    • Horsetooth Ogres at Tijuana: A heavyweight clash between two dominant division winners looking to impose their offensive will.
    • Murfreesboro Mules at Iowa City: The explosive Mules take their high-flying aerial attack on the road into a hostile Iowa City environment.

    Gale's Take

Seeing West Virginia get bounced on their own turf after sweeping Columbia in the regular season is the ultimate reminder that playoff football is an entirely different beast. Watching the Chicharones' defense bait four interceptions and seal the upset should serve as mandatory film study in Tidewater. If the Fleet want to bridge the gap from 7-8-1 to playing meaningful snaps in 2078, finding game-wrecking defensive playmakers and an offense that can post 30+ points is the only blueprint that matters.

GIANT KILLERS: TOP SEEDS CRASH OUT AS COLUMBIA’S CINDERELLA RUN ROLLS INTO CONFERENCE TITLE WEEKEND

    NORFOLK —

The Divisional Round just delivered an absolute masterclass in why regular-season banners don't mean a thing come playoff time. When the dust settled this weekend, the league’s top two overall seeds were sent packing in their first postseason action, proving once again that playoff football belongs to whoever gets hot at the right time.

Leading the charge is Norfolk’s own division rival, the Columbia Chicharrons. As the lone Wild Card survivor remaining in the bracket, Columbia continues to defy every metric on the board, securing their second consecutive road playoff stunner. Meanwhile, nailbiters and overtime drama defined the rest of the slate as the final four punch their tickets to Championship Sunday.

    Divisional Round Recaps
    • Vancouver 28, Calgary 20: Beating a division rival three times in a single season is one of the hardest feats in football, but Vancouver pulled it off in a 28-20 battle. Calgary gouged the front for over 7.0 yards per carry on the ground and outscored Vancouver 10-9 in the second half. Ultimately, Vancouver's 19-10 halftime cushion, ball control, time of possession advantage, and timely defensive stops sealed the eight-point victory.

Player of the Game: QB Wade Jude (Vancouver)
    • Columbia 26, Las Vegas 9: The bye week proved to be a curse rather than a blessing for the league's #1 overall seed. Columbia—a squad that went a dreadful 2-6 on the road during the regular season—is now 2-0 away from home in January after completely dismantling Las Vegas from the opening kickoff.

Player of the Game: QB Jesse Kremers (Columbia) – Torched the top seed in a dominant, underdog road masterclass.
    • Tijuana 37, Horsetooth 34 (OT): A thrilling rematch of their Week 9 regular-season duel produced another instant classic. Tijuana controlled the pace through three quarters before Horsetooth caught fire in the fourth while Tijuana's defense seemed to check out early. Tijuana’s defensive unit rallied just in time for overtime, locking down Horsetooth to preserve the win.

Player of the Game: Tijuana OT Defensive Game Plan
    • Murfreesboro 31, Iowa City 27: A flip of the script from their Week 6 clash. Back in October, Murfreesboro blew a halftime lead in a tight loss to Iowa City; this time, Iowa City took a 7-point lead into the break only to watch Murfreesboro erupt in the fourth quarter to steal the road victory.

Player of the Game: WR Curtis Kennedy (Murfreesboro)

    Conference Championship Matchups & Predictions

AC Championship: Columbia Chicharrons at Murfreesboro Mules

Columbia embarks on its third consecutive road trip, heading into Murfreesboro with maximum momentum. The Mules boast an explosive, high-powered offense, but their tendency to make glaring mistakes puts immense pressure on their defense to bail them out. It’s hard to bet against our division foe when they are clicking on every single cylinder.

Fleet Press Pick: Columbia 24, Murfreesboro 17

NC Championship: Tijuana Tequila Worms at Vancouver Killer Whales

Both powerhouse division champions capitalized on their week of rest to survive tight divisional round tests. While Tijuana has shown the firepower to trade punches with anyone, Vancouver enters as the undisputed juggernaut, boasting the league’s #1 scoring offense paired with the #2 rated defense.

Fleet Press Pick: Vancouver 34, Tijuana 14

    Gale's Take

Watching Columbia go into Las Vegas and dismantle the league’s top dog should make every front office executive take notes. Rest doesn't guarantee a ring—rhythm does. While it stings to watch a division rival make a deep run while the Fleet sit at home, you have to respect what Kremers and the Chicharrons are doing right now. If they pull off one more road upset in Murfreesboro, the AC East gets to send a Wild Card squad straight to the big game.

PERFECT CALLS, UNSTOPPABLE FORCES: COLUMBIA PUNCHES TICKET TO THE DANCE AS VANCOUVER ANNIHILATES TIJUANA

      NORFOLK —

First things first: give credit where credit is due. The Fleet Press went a flawless 2-0 on Conference Championship weekend predictions, nailing the game scripts and calling both winners outright.

What unfolded on Sunday was a tale of two entirely different football clinics. In the AC, our very own division rival, the Columbia Chicharones, completed an unthinkable third consecutive road playoff upset to punch their ticket to the league’s ultimate stage. Over in the NC, Vancouver delivered a ruthless, wire-to-wire masterclass that left zero doubt about who wears the crown as the league's most terrifying juggernaut.

      Conference Championship Recaps
      • Columbia Chicharones 28, Murfreesboro Mules 21

(Fleet Press Prediction: Columbia 24, Murfreesboro 17)

The Cinderella run rolls straight to the championship game. Columbia leaned into a explosive third quarter to build a commanding cushion, then weathered a fierce fourth-quarter comeback push from Murfreesboro to seal the 28-21 win. The difference-maker was balance: the Chicharones tore through the front for over 5.0 yards per carry on the ground, opening up clean passing lanes for QB Jesse Kremers to carve up the Mules’ secondary all afternoon.
      • Vancouver 33, Tijuana 6

(Fleet Press Prediction: Vancouver 34, Tijuana 14)

Tijuana scored first and scored last—and absolutely nothing went right for them in between. Vancouver put on a complete clinic, showing the entire football world why they entered the postseason with the league’s #1 scoring offense and #1 rated defense. Tijuana had no answers for Vancouver's balanced assault, resulting in a 33-6 beatdown that cemented the Canadian powerhouse as heavy favorites heading into the title clash.

The Matchup Set: Columbia vs. Vancouver
      • The Unstoppable Wild Card: Columbia has won three straight road playoff bouts against division winners and top seeds, proving they can beat anyone when Kremers and the ground attack click.
      • The Complete Juggernaut: Vancouver dismantled a formidable Tijuana roster without breaking a sweat, operating at peak efficiency on both sides of the ball.

      Gale's Take

Watching a division foe like Columbia pull off three straight road shockers to reach the big game is tough to swallow from the sidelines, but their blueprint is undeniable: an efficient ground game, complementary quarterback play, and opportunistic defense. That said, Vancouver looks like an absolute buzzsaw after dismantling Tijuana 33-6. If Columbia wants to finish this miracle run with a ring, they are going to need the game of their franchise's lifetime to slow down that Canadian freight train.

THE TITLE CLASH: MIRACLE CHICHARONES COLLIDE WITH JUGGERNAUT KILLER WHALES IN 2077 CHAMPIONSHIP BOUT

        NORFOLK —

Throw the regular-season metrics out the window. When the ball is kicked off for the 2077 League Championship, two entirely different journeys converge on football’s grandest stage.

On one sideline stands our bitter AC East division rival, the Columbia Chicharones—the ultimate Cinderella crashing the party after shocking the entire conference. On the other looms the Vancouver Killer Whales, an apex juggernaut that has spent four months dismantling opponents and looks every bit like a team of destiny. Don't let regular-season seeds fool you: both clubs are playing their absolute best football of the year, boasting prolific ground attacks, dynamic signal-callers, and opportunist defenses ready to feast on mistakes.

Get your popcorn ready. This has all the makings of an absolute barn burner.

Tale of the Tape: The Contenders
        • Columbia Chicharones (7-7-2 | AC Champions)

        • Rankings: Offense: 16th | Defense: 21st

Key Players: QB Jesse Kremers, RB Harris, WR Rivers, DE Mitchell, S Stearsman

The Narrative: After stumbling to a miserable 2-4 start and going 2-6 away from home in the regular season, Columbia was the last team anyone expected to emerge from the AC. Despite qualifying for the postseason in each of the past five seasons, this franchise had never actually won a playoff game—until now. Three straight road shockers, including dethroning division champion West Virginia and stunning top-seeded Kansas City, have the Chicharones flying high. When RB Harris establishes the run, it forces defenses out of coverage and lets Kremers unleash deep strikes to Rivers.
        • Vancouver Killer Whales (12-4 | NC Champions)

        • Rankings: Offense: 1st | Defense: 2nd

Key Players: QB Wade Jude, RB Flowers, WR Sosa, DE Fulcher, S Hoover

The Narrative: A perennial powerhouse seeking its first championship banner since 2068. Nobody doubted Vancouver’s roster from day one, but this postseason they have looked ten feet tall and bulletproof. Outscoring their two playoff opponents by a staggering 61-26 margin, Vancouver combines Jude's surgical arm with an suffocating defense anchored by Fulcher and Hoover. They don't just win games; they swallow opposing game plans whole.

        Gale's Take & Championship Pick

Three consecutive road upsets feel like a mystical good-luck charm for Columbia, but stepping into the deep end against Vancouver is a whole different beast. The Killer Whales operate like an apex pod on the hunt—disciplined, lethal, and waiting to encircle any offense that hesitates.

For the Chicharones to finish this impossible run, Harris has to control the clock and Kremers must play completely flawless football. As much as AC East pride makes us want to see our division rivals bring the hardware home to our side of the ledger, Vancouver is simply too balanced, too explosive, and playing with too much ruthlessness to be denied.

Fleet Press Prediction: Vancouver 30, Columbia 20

MIDNIGHT STRIKES IN PARADISE: KILLER WHALES ANNIHILATE CHICHARONES 59-21 TO HOIST THE TROPHY

          NORFOLK —

The Cinderella carriage didn't just lose a wheel on Sunday—it completely disintegrated into scrap metal. In a 59-21 championship blowout, the Vancouver Killer Whales captured the title, systematically dismantling the Columbia Chicharones and proving that apex predators show no mercy on football’s grandest stage.

Glance at the stat sheet without looking at the scoreboard, and you might think you were reading about a back-and-forth classic. The time of possession was split right down the middle at roughly thirty minutes apiece. Passing yards were dead even, with Columbia actually tallying 280 to Vancouver’s 278, while total yardage stood at a competitive 475-372 edge for the champions. But championship games are won on ruthless execution, and that’s where the fairy tale turned into a recurring nightmare. Columbia coughed up five catastrophic turnovers—two of which were scooped up and returned directly to the house—completely negating a valiant effort from RB Harris, who ground out 88 tough rushing yards and a score, and WR Mount, who hauled in 119 receiving yards.

The Killer Whales operated with surgical lethality, finding points on seven of their twelve drives. Quarterback Wade Jude was cool, calm, and mistake-free under the bright lights, shredding Columbia’s secondary for 278 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions while frequently linking up with WR Bates, who paced the aerial attack with 119 yards and a score of his own. Whenever Vancouver reached striking distance, RB Everett slammed the door shut; despite being held to just 62 yards on the ground, Everett was an absolute red-zone wrecking ball, finding paydirt three separate times.

Meanwhile, the wheels completely came off for Columbia's postseason darling, Jesse Kremers. After orchestrating three consecutive road upsets to get here, Kremers hit a titanium wall, throwing for 219 yards and two touchdowns but committing four crushing turnovers on three interceptions and a loose ball. The backbreakers came on defense: CB Blades stepped in front of an errant throw and took an interception all the way to paydirt, while LB Hutt delivered the dagger of the afternoon, scooping up a fumble and rumbling 93 agonizing yards down the sideline for a defensive score. To add salt to the wound, Columbia mounted two promising, sustained drives of 40-plus yards late in the contest, only for both to sputter out in demoralizing giveaways.

          Gale's Take

Watching a division rival get boat-raced by nearly forty points on the biggest stage of the year always brings a wry smirk to Tidewater, but tip your cap to Columbia where it's due. This was a squad that back-doored into the postseason dance, had to pack their bags for four consecutive weeks away from home—dating right back to Week 17 against our beloved Fleet—and did what virtually no .500 team in league history ever pulls off. They ran a brutal road gauntlet, knocked off the league's top overall seed, and proved they had the guts to play for a world title. That being said, Vancouver put on an absolute clinic in complementary football. You simply cannot turn the ball over five times against a machine and live to tell about it. The Killer Whales earned their rings with pure ruthlessness, and as the curtain falls on 2077, the entire league now knows the standard required to lift hardware next winter.
