In what is a stunning turn of events, the Orlando Pirates waste no time in finding Dewitt Flynn's replacement. Dewitt wanted to stay with the team after their 3rd division win but he felt he was not up to the 400+ carries of a 16 game season. He filed for retirement and then quickly helped broker the deal for his replacement.
Dewitt has been a longtime friend of Allan Ho and felt Ho would be an ideal back for Orlando's power running game. Dewitt has 882 carries the last 2 seasons while Ho has racked up 950 in 3 seasons. Ho is the IFL's leader in yardage and second in rushing touchdowns. He comes with an impressive resume and a desire to carry the ball 400 times a season for the Pirate Flag!!
Ho is nearly an exact replica of Dewitt's body type. They are nearly the same height and weight. The biggest difference Ho adds is his ypc. His is nearly a full yard more per carry over his career then Dewitt's. Ho can bang it up between the tackles but can also bounce it outside with a full repertoire of shifty moves.
The deal was two fold for the Pirates. They also will acquire a sleeper in SS Lauren Sleeper. He brings 52 passes defensed, 9 ints and a huge 305 tackles in 3 seasons. He will instantly add a much needed component to Orlando's secondary in pairing up with Lee Mears. It looks like Lee will slide over to the FS position and Lauren will dominate from the SS like he normally does. 2nd year CB Desmond Wolfe gets the safety help he desperately needed last year as well.
The trade will say bonvoyage to Orlando's 1st and 2nd round picks this year. In the past Orlando has drafted poorly from late position. Now they will hopefully be able to add some depth at the offensive line through the draft and FA. The veteran players they traded for will bring instant impact to an aging team. With the division shaping up to be the toughest and most competitive in the Imperial League there is no better time then the present.
