  • COLUMBIA STILL REELING!!!

The Leaking Sieve, Columbia’s D fails again! FIRE FALL TO TOADS 29-14

Despite the return of several key members to the defense from injury, the Fire found out early that the new look D has a long way to go. Despite major changes in the defensive play book to best utilize the players on their roster, Little Rock was able to jump out to a huge lead thanks in part to their air attack and the Fire’s porous secondary. “Losing 3 of your top 4 CBs for the year is hard to overcome” said SLB Beau Brown. “We are really having to rely on our offense to much right now, I am just hoping we can rebound” WR Rusty Ramos stated in frustration after being asked why the team was struggling. Many experts are concerned that the recent losing streak is taking its toll on a team that is use to winning. Are the playoffs still a possibility?

    CAN COLUMBIA MAKE THE PLAYOFFS???

You would think that with 3 straight losses that the answer to this question would be NO! But with the Fire playing 2 teams with a combined 13-15 record the Fire find themselves with the chance of winning out and holding onto 1 of the 2 wild card positions. With several teams in the playoff hunt and with playoff dreams, the Fire currently has two teams of concern and they are both from the NFC East. With a heartbreaking loss to Vermont this past week, Lawrence (9-6) finds themselves out of first place and facing the same situation as the Fire, only with a tougher schedule. The Phantoms find themselves facing AFC west leader Portland (8-6) and division rival Newark (8-6) in the final two weeks of the season. The other team in the East, Orlando (9-6), finds their road a little less bumpy with a game against Albuquerque (3-11) next week, but sees division leader and rival Newark in the distance (10-4). Who will prevail? Can the Fire win two in a row? Lets watch and see!

    Could it be true????

Rumors around the team continue to swirl that the Fire's management maybe looking to move some major members of their team during the off season. With no number one pick in this years draft, a team representative advised me that there are talks about a dramatic change in the teams offensive play book, and that a few key players may be moved to free up money and/or to obtain draft picks so that the team can acquire the players needed to make the new offense work. Now the only question is WHO!!!
